Some web sites provide interactive extensions using browser scripts, often without inspecting the scripts to verify that they are benign and bug-free. Others handle users' confidential data and ...display it via the browser. Such new features contribute to the power of online services, but their combination would allow attackers to steal confidential data. This paper presents BFlow, a security system that uses information flow control to allow the combination while preventing attacks on data confidentiality.
BFlow allows untrusted JavaScript to compute with, render, and store confidential data, while preventing leaks of that data. BFlow tracks confidential data as it flows within the browser, between scripts on a page and between scripts and web servers. Using these observations and assistance from participating web servers, BFlow prevents scripts that have seen confidential data from leaking it, all without disrupting the JavaScript communication techniques used in complex web pages. To achieve these ends, BFlow augments browsers with a new "protection zone" abstraction. We have implemented a BFlow browser reference monitor and server support. To evaluate BFlow's confidentiality protection and flexibility, we have built a BFlow-protected blog that supports Blogger's third party JavaScript extensions. BFlow is compatible with every legitimate Blogger extension that we have found, yet it prevents malicious extensions from leaking confidential data.

Cloud platforms allow users to execute tasks directly from their web browser and are a key enabling technology not only for commerce but also for computational science. Research software is often ...developed by scientists with limited experience in (and time for) user interface design, which can make research software difficult to install and use for novices. When combined with the increasing complexity of scientific workflows (involving many steps and software packages), setting up a computational research environment becomes a major entry barrier. AiiDAlab is a web platform that enables computational scientists to package scientific workflows and computational environments and share them with their collaborators and peers. By leveraging the AiiDA workflow manager and its plugin ecosystem, developers get access to a growing range of simulation codes through a python API, coupled with automatic provenance tracking of simulations for full reproducibility. Computational workflows can be bundled together with user-friendly graphical interfaces and made available through the AiiDAlab app store. Being fully compatible with open-science principles, AiiDAlab provides a complete infrastructure for automated workflows and provenance tracking, where incorporating new capabilities becomes intuitive, requiring only Python knowledge.
Despite growing numbers of immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) trials with available omics data, it remains challenging to evaluate the robustness of ICB response and immune evasion mechanisms ...comprehensively. To address these challenges, we integrated large-scale omics data and biomarkers on published ICB trials, non-immunotherapy tumor profiles, and CRISPR screens on a web platform TIDE (http://tide.dfci.harvard.edu). We processed the omics data for over 33K samples in 188 tumor cohorts from public databases, 998 tumors from 12 ICB clinical studies, and eight CRISPR screens that identified gene modulators of the anticancer immune response. Integrating these data on the TIDE web platform with three interactive analysis modules, we demonstrate the utility of public data reuse in hypothesis generation, biomarker optimization, and patient stratification.
JOYSpectra is a free-of-charge web platform to perform online calculations of spectroscopic properties of lanthanide-based compounds and materials. It has several features and functionalities to ...provide a detailed analysis of the intensity parameters. For instance, their dependence on the chemical environment of the lanthanide ion (Ln3+) such as structure and nature of ligating atoms, can be performed automatically and consider covalency and thermal effects. The program can also calculate the intramolecular energy transfer rates from excited donor states up to 310 transitions involving 12 Ln3+ ions. The web platform was designed to be user-friendly for experimentalists and theoreticians interested in calculations and analyses of the photophysical behavior of lanthanides. Its use requires only the structure of the compound and the choices of a few calculation options. To show its easiness and usefulness, a detailed step-by-step calculation and analysis are performed for the Ln(tta)3(H2O)2 (Ln: Eu and Tb) complexes to explain and quantify their distinct luminescence properties.
•The JOYSpectra web platform is useful to study photophysical properties of any lanthanide-based materials.•The program can calculate intramolecular energy transfer rates from excited donor states up to Ln3+ 310 transitions.•The user does not need to do an installation of the program, avoiding problems such as operating system compatibility.•Ability to set the temperature to calculate the forward and backward intramolecular energy transfer rates.

In drug development, early assessments of pharmacokinetic and toxic properties are important stepping stones to avoid costly and unnecessary failures. Considerable progress has recently been made in ...the development of computer-based (
) models to estimate such properties. Nonetheless, such models can be further improved in terms of their ability to make predictions more rapidly, easily, and with greater reliability. To address this issue, we have used our vNN method to develop 15 absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity (ADMET) prediction models. These models quickly assess some of the most important properties of potential drug candidates, including their cytotoxicity, mutagenicity, cardiotoxicity, drug-drug interactions, microsomal stability, and likelihood of causing drug-induced liver injury. Here we summarize the ability of each of these models to predict such properties and discuss their overall performance. All of these ADMET models are publically available on our website (https://vnnadmet.bhsai.org/), which also offers the capability of using the vNN method to customize and build new models.

Technological development has an impact on various areas, and governments from all over the world search to make a smooth transition from traditional to digital, by adopting dedicated software ...solutions aiming to facilitate the interaction of citizens with public institutions. These platforms are designed to improve the citizens relationship with government by facilitating various processes and tasks.
The importance of having a unified web platform is easily justified. Citizens are no longer in need of searching different platforms for their specific needs, dealing with a lot of interfaces and accounts, as all are gathered in one, maintaining a robust, complex system that is easy to use. Therefore, they would benefit from an integrated digital environment, that meet their needs and expectations, also providing security and privacy of confidential and personal information. The authors present the value of creating such an environment, that has a high technical level, that is user-centered and accessible for interactions between citizens and government.
Designing and implementing a unified e-government web platform requires the analysis of various factors and aspects such as user interface, processes, services, security measures, integration with social media platforms, collaborative environment, and many others. First, an investigation on specific literature was made to offer a context to the present research and be used as a starting point, highlighting the main factors related to e-government and the impact of this type of platforms. The model proposed by the authors encapsulates considerations on both sides: government and citizens to offer a detailed understanding on e-government platforms.
