This paper tries to present morphological productivity of compound nouns in a corpus comprised of news, literary, academic and TV registers using an onomasiological approach, namely, the productivity ...at the level of word-formation rules. The productivity at the aforementioned level is the union of the productivity at the level of word-formation types and morphological types. By using manual, descriptive, analytic and statistical methods, we came to 571 examples of compound nouns that fell into 10 different conceptual categories (Agent, Action, Result, Object, Location, Instrument, Substance, Time, Quantity, State), i.e. clusters. Each cluster offered pieces of information on the interaction of different concepts within different word-formation types together with the morphological aspect through different morphological types, which was the aim of the paper. The results proved our initial hypothesis that the interaction of different elements is of the utmost significance for better understanding of compounding. The interaction of two concepts dominated all clusters while the combination of two stems, especially two nouns, dominated morphological types.
The book is devoted to word-formation in written and spoken German. Corpus analyses trace diamedial usage patterns and functions of word formations in single texts, text complexes, text types as well ...as in linguistic interaction. From a theoretical point of view, the study draws on textual and interactional linguistic approaches as well as cognitive semantic and constructional grammatical approaches.
This volume comprises eight cutting-edge research articles on the meaning of complex words. The contributions apply a range of innovative methodological approaches to under-researched problems in ...derivational semantics. The book provides new answers to longstanding theoretical and empirical questions concerning the polysemy and rivalry of affixes, but also addresses broader questions such as how to best represent meaning.
This paper dicsusses some features of word creation that this type of lexicogenesis differentiate from word formation (as lexicogenesis by typical morphological processes). The word creation ...processes that have been analyzed are blending, clipping, and acronimization. As the differential features of these processes, creation (inventivenes), intentionality, and (semantic) nontransperancy, as well as form reduction are presented. The conclusion is that in the case of the opposition between word creation and word formation, it is better to talk about prototypical categories. In this context, creation (inventivenes), intentionality, (semantic) non-transperancy, and form reduction are considered as prototypical features of the word creation processes.
Word formation is a chapter of the English grammar which requires specific attention not only due to its complexity in forming new words, but also in terms of a variety of means by which it is ...expressed. Whether it is affixation, composition or derivation, the phenomenon is worth analyzing in order to understand the mechanisms of word formation. Therefore, the work under study aims to reveal the way our mental lexicon accesses thousands of words and word combinations for which we need a lot of linguistic skillfulness. At the same time, the study also focuses on potential difficulties that students meet in relation to the coinage or acquisition of new words which they use in everydaycontexts.

The series Handbooks of Linguistics and Communication Science is designed to illuminate a field which not only includes general linguistics and the study of linguistics as applied to specific ...languages, but also covers those more recent areas which have developed from the increasing body of research into the manifold forms of communicative action and interaction.
This study aims to find the form of morphological interference that occurs due to the contact between the Arabic language being studied and the first language that has been mastered by students of ...Arabic Language Education, State University of Jakarta. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method. The case studies were carried out directly in real life from data sources totalling 95 students. Data collection was carried out through testing, direct interviews and listening to conversations. From this study, it was found that there were 480 forms of morphological interference, which were summarized into the following forms: (1) differences in word patterns (22%); (2) word formation (32%); (3) compounding (3%); and (4) reduplication (43%). Factors causing morphological interference that occur among students are differences in word patterns between Arabic and the first language that has been mastered, low understanding of Arabic vocabulary and systems, and differences in the culture of language users.

Usage-based studies of word formation usually focus on written and monologic texts. In contrast, this paper argues for the investigation of word formation in (oral) interaction. By discussing the ...current state of research on word formation in spoken German and by analyzing a corpus of different genres (e. g. face-to-face everyday conversation, WhatsApp communication), the interactional potential and relevance of word formation in dialogic communication will be exemplified and outlined. The focus is on case studies of different functions of word formation, e. g. specification and differentiation or word play through word formation.
This article deals with Russian derived verbs of behaviour, formed on the
basis of substantive and adjectival stems by means of suffixation. The aim
of the analysis is to identify and characterize ...the structural, lexical and
designative specificity of this class of words from the
derivational-semantic aspect. The study showed that the four word-formation
models that are the most productive and popular in Russian speech are those
that include suffixes-nicha(t?), -stvova(t?), -i(t?), and -ova(t?), within
which the explication of ?behavioural semantics? takes place. Lexical
derivation is accompanied by active metaphorization, as a result of which
the verbal lexeme acquires expressive-evaluative connotation (often
pejorative) and functional and stylistic marking (?colloquial? or
?bookish?). The article characterizes motivational relations and lexical and
word-formation semantics of verbs formed according to a particular model and
reveals their designative-evaluative and regulative function. Verbs of
behaving and acting reflect stereotypical ideas of native speakers of
Russian about desirable, exemplary or undesirable, socially proscribed forms
of human interaction with the surrounding world. Their derivational dynamics
allows for objectification of basic moral and ethical meanings and deontic
norms in the mental and cultural space of the Russian language, which
indicates the axiological component of the process of verb designation.
