    The distribution, behaviour, and trophic ecology of the jellyfish Pelagia noctiluca (Forsskål, 1775) were studied in coastal waters of the Adriatic Sea,both in situ and in the laboratory. Active P. ... noctiluca medusae formed subsurface aggregations and exibited characteristic foraging behaviour. At temperatures of 16-19°C, indivudual P. noctiluca (bell diameter 2-5 cm) required ~3 mg C day -1 for maintainance and growth indicating a substantial predatory effect of scyphomedusae.
