  • Prazgodovinska pasja lobanja z Ljubljanskega barja
    Toškan, Borut
A dog (Canis familiaris) skull was found during the excavations at the archaeological site of Ho~evarica in Ljubljansko barje (central Slovenia). Itsage was estimated to approximately 5,600 B.C. ... (i.e. bronze age). In that period Ljubljansko barje was a lake inhabited by lake-dwellers. The skull, which is partially damaged, is in its shape similar to those of nowadays hounds. The oldest archaeological remains of dogs are known from Great Britain(9,500 B.C.), Iran (11,000 B.C.) and Germany (12.000 B.C.), but the latest genetic research suggests, that the domestication dates to early man (i.e. approx. 100.000 B.C.).
