  • Slovenci u Srednjoj Bosni u periodu 1910.-2013. godine: sa osvrtom na zeničko-dobojski kanton i općinu Kakanj [Elektronski vir]
Tomažič, Dušan, 1961- ; Suljić, Alija
The Slovenian diaspora has been present in Bosnia and Herzegovina since the second half of the 19th century. Slovenians came to these areas in three waves: during the Austro-Hungarian Empire, during ... the emergence of fascism in Italy and especially during the socialist Yugoslavia. And most returned to Slovenia after the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina (1992- 1995). It was 1953 when most Slovenians lived in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as in the Zenica-Doboj Canton. That year, 1,119 Slovenes lived in the Zenica-Doboj Canton. In the municipality of Kakanj, most Slovenes were enlisted in the 1961 census. There were 116 present. From 1953 to 2013, the number of Slovenians was constantly declining. There are 61 Slovenes living in the Zenica-Doboj Canton today, and only 13 Slovenes in the Kakanj municipality. The depopulation of Slovenes at the end of the 20th century was influenced by many factors: the war (1992-1995), the devastated state and the poor economic situation, but today the biggest problems are the aging population and Croatization. In the Zenica-Doboj Canton, the "Slovenian Association of Citizens Kakanj" was founded during the 1992 war and it was later renamed after Jožef Špringer. In the area of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, also the Slovenian society "Breza" in the town of Breza exists, which was founded in 1994. The Association of Slovenes of Central Bosnia named "Encijan" in Zenica was founded at the end of 1992. The "Slovenian Society" in Visoko has stopped its activities. The first Slovenian society in Central Bosnia was founded back in 1918. Associations have a special significance for the preservation of identity, culture and language. In addition to the cantonal and municipal authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Office for Slovenians Abroad and the Ministry of Education and Sports of the Republic of Slovenia help the most.
