    Mental health services in Slovenia are predominantly institutional. Insurance resources are directed to psychiatric hospitals and out-patient clinics. Community services are social institutions ... developed in non-government sector without support and surveillance of medical profession, therefore the needs oftheir users can be only partly answered. It is necessary to the plan development of community services in order to restrain the increasing burden of mental health problems in psychiatric and general practice services and in community in general. Above all, it is urgent to improve availability, coordination and quality of care for patients with severe mental disorders. Mental health policy should follow recommendations of World Health Organisation and consider characteristics of our specific mental health situation and already developed community services.
