  • Načela antibiotičnega zdravljenja okužb na spodnjih dihalih = Principles of appropriate antibiotic treatment of lower respiratory tract infections
    Beović, Bojana
General principles o f the treatment of infections should be applied in antimicrobial treatment of patients with community-acquired lower respiratory tract infections. The chosen antibiotics should ... be effective, safe and well tolerated with minimal impact on antimicrobial resistance. The cost of the treatment should be reasonable. In most cases the treatment o f lower respiratory tract infections is empirical, taking into account possible etiologic agents and their susceptibility to antibiotics. Clinical significance of in vitro antimicrobial resistance in respiratory pathogens remains unclear but cases of unsuccess ful treatment remind us to stay alert. Specially designed antimicrobial treatment is needed at extremes of age and inpatients with underlying diseases. The route of antibiotic administration depends upon severity of disease; seguential treatment is possible in many hospitalized patients. The duration of treatment is not defined and depends upon the causative agent and the host.
