    Arnež, Maja, 1958-
Despite progress in intesive care treatment Streptococcus agalactiae remains an important cause of morbidity and mortality in neonates and infants. The percentage of colonized women in Slovenia ... appears to be high. The paper presents the incidence of infection in the USA and western European countries. The importance of detection of colonization by Streptococcus agalactiae in pregnant women during delivery, as the main risk factor for infection in children, is emphasized. The diagnosis of infection and possible prevention of early neonatal infection are shown. The need for safe and effective vaccine against Streptococcus agalactiae to prevent stillborn, prematurity and late infection in children is stressed.
