    Fractures of the acetabulum are high - energy injuries, which affect one of the biggest and most loaded joint in the human body. The type of fracture depends on the mechanism of trauma and the ... position of the body at the time ofthe accident. The treatment of acetabular fractures in modern traumatology is mostly operatively. The goal in acetabular fracture treatment is to accomplish anatomical reduction and stable fixation, which enable us to start with early motion of the joint. The goal of my study was to find out which areother important factors for good final result of acetabular fractures treatment. This study is designed as a retrospective study of final results ofoperatively treated acetabular fractures in four years period in the Department of traumatology of Medical centre in Ljubljana. We compared patients with bad final result and all other patients in each type of the acetabular fracture. The results of our study show that the bad final results appear in all groups. Bad prognostic factors are bad reduction, postoperative skeletal traction and long postoperative immobilisation. Bad results can be predicted already upon difficulty of the fracture. In most demanding fracturesthe reduction and fixation of the fracture fragments were not good enough, so the postoperative immobilisation time was longer and early arthrosis developed. Upon the results in our study we can say that there is noeasy acetabular fracture. All fractures demand good preoperative planning, good reduction and short mobilisation time. However in some cases the fractures themself are so difficult that the result of proper operative treatment is bad.(Abstract truncated at 2000 characters).
