    Typologies which trace the development of drug consumers' 'career' or intensity of drug using, usually do not take into account the social construction of drug using or social framing in which drug ... using is understood. If analysing different types of drug using, it could be seen that in our civilisation the drug using is on the one hand recreative, based on expressive use, where the emphasis is on aesthetic pleasure of sublime type, and on the other hand, in the case of medicine or therapy it is utilitarian. In both cases the drug is a commodity without productive and reproductive functions. On the contrary, in traditional society drugs as commodity do not exist, where the drug using is weaved in social tissue and the drugs are produced for one's own usage with one's own means. Unconformistic drug using is the fourth type, which differs from the traditional according to its expressiveness. The four types form the two-dimensional matrix: the first dimension is the drug as commodity or vernacular good; and the second one is the drug using as heteronomous and instrumental or autonomous and expressive activity.
