  • Economic optimisation of absorption chillers [Elektronski vir] = Optimisation économique des refrigerateures à absorption
    Cerkvenik, Boštjan ...
The European market for climatisation of buildings is expected to increase in the coming years. For peak shaving reasons thermally driven absorption chillers would be preferred, if they were ... competitive to conventional compression systems with regard to cost for economical reasons and with regard to energy consumption for environmental reasons. Therefore lower payback times due to lower investment or running cost must be introduced. This can be done by attaining higher coefficients of performance (COP) e.g. by multistaging, and/or by minimizing the required heat exchanger area, which is mainly responsible for the capital cost. Unfortunately, in most cases high COP (which means low running cost) requires high investment cost (which means large heat exchanger area), and this effort will only pay off for relatively large lifelong running time. So an optimization between these two aspects is necessary. The aim of this paper is to find the economical optimum for thermally driven single- and double-effect absorption chillers with respect to the thermodynamic aspects. In other words the optimal machine with the least total cost for the given external conditions will be found. In addition to earlier publications on the topic, the economic terms are discussed in more detail.
