Environmental protection is a rapidly growing area both in Slovenia and internationally. Today we are facing many challenges in our environment: there is the threat of global warming, natural ...resources are dwindling, and so increasingly more people are becoming aware of these problems. We have to protect the environment and start saving energy wherever possible. Energy efficiency starts in our homes with recycling, conserving water and electricity, and other measures. On a larger scale, this means building energyefficient houses. This includes the use of building materials, solar energy, wind energy, and many other subfields. The demand for passive houses is increasing. Therefore I decided to write a thesis on this topic with an accompanying glossary because I believe there is a need for it. This thesis and the Slovenian-English glossary of energy-efficient construction is intended for people interested in energy efficiency in buildings, professionals, semiprofessionals, and translation students. My bachelorćs thesis is composed of two parts: a theoretical part and a practical part. The first part starts by discussing energy efficiency and then discusses lexicography and the production of specialized dictionaries. This includes the intended users of the glossary, the search for lemmata and equivalents, linguistic and encyclopedic information, dictionary components, and dictionary structures. The second, practical part is the glossary. For this I selected lemmata and equivalents on the basis of my research on energy-efficient construction and environmental protection. In this part I analyzed the existing literature in Slovenian and in English, and I also did extensive searching on the internet. The glossary also includes linguistic information (accentuation, morphology, and part of speech labels). The thesis concludes with a reverse index for English to Slovenian so that users of this thesis can find a particular term in English and its Slovenian equivalent. I hope that this glossary will help anybody that is interested in energy efficiency and that it will be a useful tool for translating from Slovenian to English and text production in English and Slovenian.
