    This paper is focused on the fabrics as protection items against negative effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation. The role of UV radiation on human health; the protection against UV radiation with the ... emphasis on protective fabrics; the techniques and standards to quantify the ultraviolet protection properties of passive fabrics, and some factors influencing the UV protection properties of fabrics, such as yarn structure, fabric geometry (type of weave, fabric tightness, cover factor / open porosity, volume porosity), additives, laundering, and wearing conditions, are discussed within this paper. The results of research dealing with the influence of raw woven fabric's construction and colour on UV protection are also presented. The results could serve as guidelines for woven fabric engineering in order to develop woven fabrics with desired UV protection.
