The Slovene neocircumflex is a major source of information for the reconstruction of Proto-Slavic long vowels in posttonic syllables. The Slovene material also provides a basis for explaining the rise & development of accent classes in West Bulgarian dialects. Conversely, the West Bulgarian dialects corroborate the reliability of the Slovene evidence for Proto-Slavic vowel quantity in final syllables. 12 References. Modified HA
