All actual and nearly all proposed general human rights laws in Australia deny rights protection to non-humans, notably corporations. Despite its near unanimous support in Australia, this stance is an outlier in the world of statutory and constitutional human rights protection. This article reviews the rationales for the Australian approach and its implementation in the ACT and Victoria, and finds both severely wanting.
