An obituary for teacher and poet Donald Junkins is presented. Junkins was, beginning in 1966, director of the creative writing MFA at UMass for many years, an expert on the works of Ernest Hemingway, Robert Francis, and D. H. Lawrence, an early poetry editor for the Massachusetts Review, and the author of over twenty books, including a dozen collections of poetry. A lifelong Democrat, Junkins campaigned for Bobby Kennedy in 1968 and introduced the senator to thousands at the Concord, California airport on the day before he was shot.
