AL PURDY (1918-2000) published over 40 books of prose and poetry. His work appeared in many periodicals, including Queen's Quarterly. He won the Governor General's Award in 1966 and 1987 and received the Order of Canada in 1982. This poem first appeared in Queen's Quarterly 102/4 (Winter 1995).
