ABSTRACT The main objective of this research is to identify how individuals belonging to the Mapuche people were integrated into domestic service in the province of Concepción during the first half of the 19th century. On the review of more than 450 wills that were legalized in the various notary offices of Concepción between 1823 and 1861, a dozen cases were identified where it is expressly stated that the servant legatee was of Mapuche origin, and that the inheritance was bequeathed to them "for services". The analysis of these wills, from a qualitative perspective, allows us to understand a series of common practices for the time, such as the use of Mapuche servants by the elites of Concepción, the change of Mapuche surnames for a "Chileanized" one, the transfer of surnames to servants when they had been raised by their masters, the bequest of various elements as remuneration for services and their insertion into a monetarized system, among others. En el caso de Chile, sus relatos abarcaron aspectos de la geografía física y humana de ciudades como Santiago, Valparaíso, Concepción, Los Angeles, Valdivia, entre otras.
