Sveta Trojica in Slovenske gorice is a place associated with many important names of the Slovene literature, science and culture. Alojz Kraigher, a writer and a doctor, is one of the most often mentioned names and Ivan Cankar spent a short time during the World War I at his place. Both of them have a memorial plaque on the house where Alojz Kraigher used to live. Alojz Kraigher became famous for his novel Kontrolor Skrobar (Inspector Skrobar). There is a series of other important personalities, which are still remembered and which have a special place in the rich local history of Sveta Trojica. One of them is most definitely the priest and linguist Oroslav Caf. In 1974, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his death, the Slavistic society arranged a memorial plaque on his birth house in Zgornje Verjane and in this way expressed gratitude for his huge contribution to the Slovene and Slavic linguistics in general. Oroslav Caf never denied that Slovenske gorice were his beloved homeland, although he also never emphasized it. He was a patriot and brave friend of the Slovene language, always true to his home town and the rich folk traditions that was source of inspiration for his scientific achievements, which place him side by side with the greatest linguistic legends of his time, like for example Franc Miklosic.
