    Journal Article

Discusses the importance & the role women entrepreneurs play in the international environment, highlighting the situation of women entrepreneurs in Slovenia. Empirical evidence from most OECD countries shows that small & medium-sized companies are an important source of employment generation, innovation, & economic development. However, even though women entrepreneurs are rapidly becoming a major force in OECD member countries, their contribution could become even more significant if a number of restrictions were removed. The major forces of innovation & job creation are synthesized as follows: (1) improving knowledge about female entrepreneurship; (2) promoting entrepreneurial education & training; (3) removing financial obstacles & promoting innovative tools to foster the growth of female entrepreneurship; (4) promoting the competitiveness of women entrepreneurs; (5) facilitating access to international & domestic markets; & (6) transforming the regulatory & institutional environment. Entrepreneurship plays a significant role in the economic development of every country. It can become a major force of economic growth in Slovenia as well (Small Business Development Strategy, 1996). Every effort should be made to promote women entrepreneurs because they constitute a large unused business potential both in Slovenia & abroad. 7 Tables, 14 References.
