    Journal Article

This paper aims at describing current trends in urban transformation in São Paulo, the largest metropolis in South America. It presents evidence on the role of the public sector in promoting infrastructural adjustments in order to reinforce the role of the agglomeration as articulator of national and global flows of production, information, knowledge, finance and services. It introduces evidence that such strategies reinforce poly-centricity, but also socio-spatial fragmentation, through selective investment in infrastructure in specific areas of the metropolis.
