The paper discusses the premises of the new spatial legislation in Slovenia, based on the analysis of the existing legislation on spatial planning and management, directions of the European Union in terms of architectural policies, directions of the European Landscape Convention and Resolution of the Council of Europe on architectural quality in urban and rural environments in the sense of the paradigm of sustainable development. The new legislation should provide a detailed definition of spatial planning at the municipal, regional and intermunicipal levels, and also at the state level, with clearly defined procedures in adopting spatial documents, definition in terms of contents and structure and requirements of relevant ministries, especially those responsible for management with natural resources and corresponding control and audit mechanisms.
