  • The contrasting image of ottoman rule and Muslims in Bosnia built in Britain during the late ottoman period
    Radušić, Edin
Using concrete examples, the paper offers a full reconstruction and deconstruction of two contrasting images of late Ottoman Bosnia and Bosnian Muslims - a very negative and quite positive one. The ... first was created in the book authored by British travel writers and suffragists Adeline Pauline Irby and G. Muir Mackenzie (Travels in the Slavonic provinces of Turkey-in-Europe, 1877) and the second one was created in the reports of the consul William R. Holmes and other British representatives in Bosnia. Both images significantly influenced the course of British policy towards the Balkans in the Eastern crisis (1875-1878).
