Regulation of labour relations in the EU legal system is primarily targeted at correcting certain negative effects produced by the activities in internal market. Particular approach to regulation of ... labour relations in this legal system stipulates that the most important issues of individual, and especially collective labour law, are under the competence of member states. At the same time, the analysis of the existing EU legal acquis shows that in the modern sense of the word, three circumstances hold special significance for the field of labour relations: a) the concept of social market economy model, b) social dialogue, and c) the concept of flexicurity. Economic and social crises in the territory of Europe in the past ten years have underlined the importance of proper labour law regulations. Consequently, most of the EU member states have carried out the reform of their labour legislation in the past five years. Based on standards and directives in the EU legal system, the framework of labour legislation reform is related to: conditions of labour and employment, participation of workers, protection of health and safety at work, and prohibition of discrimination. The main subject to analyses carried out in this paper is related to the EU%s modus operandi in the field of labour relations. Namely, in the framework of EU legal acquis in the field of labour relations, the basic instruments are tied to three methods of activities: a) legal regulation through secondary legislation/directives (social policy); b) open method of coordination (employment policy) and c) European social dialogue (affirmation of European collective bargaining agreements). Having in mind that the knowledge and understanding of the EU%s different methods of action in the field of labour relations can provide an important contribution to the forming of labour relations in the context of economic development, resolving of unemployment issue and other social issues, the review of the EU%s methods of action in the field of labour relations is significant for the labour legislation in BiH. By signing the Stabilisation and Association Agreement, BiH has entered a stage of mandatory harmonisation of its legislation, meaning an effective transposition of the content of legal acquis into the domestic legal system.
