Question classification is an important task in most question answering systems. The entire passage retrieval and answer extraction process relies on having the correct answer type for a given ...question. In this paper we present the term of question classification, its role in the question answering systems and reasons for the use of machine learning by the question classification. We also present features used by machine learning. Various machine learning approaches to question classification are examined. At last we present two most frequent used metrics, precision and MRR.
