Dyeing properties and evaluation of colour of lyocell fibresKreže, Tatjana, tekstilstvo, 1962- ; Sfiligoj-Smole, MajdaThe supramolecular structure of environmentally friendly produced lyocell fibres is different from the classical man ]made cellulosic fibres, which clarifies their different dyeing properties. The ... purpose of research was to study the differences in the dyeability of viscose, modal and lyocell fibres and define the correlation between fine structure of cellulose fibres and their adsorption ability. Man ]made cellulose fibres were dyed with the selected bifunctional monofluoro ]s ]triazine dyes. Dye sorption was determined using colorimetric evaluation of colour of dyed fibre samples. The reflectance values of the dyed samples were measured using Datacolor Texflash spectrophotometer. Dye sorption or dye concentration on the fibre was determined using reflectance measurements of dyed fibre samples with Kubelka ]Munk values K/S at the .max. The colour of dyed samples has been evaluated with the help of CIELAB colorimetric system using a DC 3881 Datacolor spectrophotometer. K/S values of dyed samples represent the colour strength achieved with selected dyestuffs on the various regenerated cellulosic fibres.The highest K/S values have been obtained for lyocell fibres, and lowerfor modal fibres, if compared with standard viscose fibres. The colour difference values support the results obtained with K/S values. The values forDL*, which represents the differences in lightness, confirm that all lyocell samples are darker and all modal samples are lighter than viscose samples. The greatest difference DL* appears for modal fibres dyed with the red dye. The different structural properties of regenerated cellulosic fibres affect also the colour shade of dyed samples as seen in Da*, Db*, DC*and DH* values. The structure characteristics of lyocell fibres are described. Lyocell fibres are very similar to viscose fibres regarding the structure of the voids; however, they have significantly higher crystallinity index in comparison to viscose fibres. Lyocell and viscose fibres with the highest void volume have large inner surface; hence the dye adsorption ability is the greatest.
