Didactic games in learning and teaching English language in the 6th grade of primary school : magistrsko delo

This master's thesis is about teaching and learning English through games. We considered six game types, namely, social or board games, introduction games, quiz games, musical games, and digital ...games. All game types can overlap; a game can fall into more than one category at once. Teachers can use technology in teaching the language in an English classroom with the help of games. Recent technology, such as the use of interactive boards, has made it easier to use all game types. Learning the English language does not stop at school; therefore, homework is an essential part of the learning process. Homework can also be a game, that is why we provide examples for each game type for teaching in classroom and learning at home-homework. The purpose of our study was to research pupils' attitudes towards using games in learning and teaching the English language in 6th grade. We used a survey questionnaire to collect data. The sample represents 642 pupils of 6th grade of primary schools all across Slovenia. We addressed nine research questions and set six hypotheses, of which we confirmed five. It would be interesting to research this even further to see if the results would differ if we selected older or younger pupils.
