    This paper presents the functions of the word pa, a very common polyfunctional word in all historical periods of (Standard) Slovene, and its German translational equivalences in conversations ... (Šmigoc, 1812, Primic, 1813, Kušovic, 1813, Murko, 1843), written in Slovene and German, and in Linhart's comedy Županova Micka (1790), the translation of Richter's Die Feldmühle (1777). Pa is used in all these (Slovene) texts either as a cohesive particle, expressing contrast or addition or as a copulative or adversative coordinating conjunction. German translational equivalents of pa in all these texts are aber, und, denn, allein and ja. Pa can also be used without its German translation equivalent, which happens rarely in the conversations and often in the comedy. This is because the Slovene and German texts of the conversations are mostly identical in a sense of structure and proposition, whereas the two versions of the comedy aren't.
