This diploma thesis researches fantastic fiction, a genre that has been at its peak in recent decades in popular culture. I am exploring the different genres of fantastic fiction and observe their ... elements in selected short stories of Edgar Allan Poe (a pioneer in this genre who made a great contribution to the genre's development) and in selected films by Tim Burton (one of the most prominent filmmakers in this field in modern popular culture). The thesis deals with contact points and differences between the two, also in terms of different time periods and genres in which their works were created. I am researching the choice of different fantastic elements as well as their psychological impact on the reader or the viewer.
