Kultura i fusnote : analiza prevodilačkih fusnota u srpskim prevodima proze Cirila Kosmača

The paper is dedicated to the analysis of the translator's footnotes in the Serbian translations of the prose works by the Slovene writer Ciril Kosmač, published by Matica srpska in 1981; a special ...attention is paid to the importance of the footnotes in conveying culturally relevant information from the source text. A quantitative and qualitative analysis of this translation technique has shown its multifaceted function and status in translation context. The 67 translator's footnotes in the Serbian translations of four Kosmač's works can be divided into four categories: linguistic knowledge (51), artistic reality (9, another 3 conditionally), non-artistic reality (6, another 1 partially) and style (1). In most cases, the translator's footnotes in the analysed translations of Kosmač's works can be viewed as a technique helping the translators to preserve the linguistic, stylistic and socio-cultural features of the original.
