Biodegradation and concomitant biocenosis development in a fluidised bed reactor = Biokemijska razgradnja in razvoj spremljajoče združbe v reaktorju s fluidizirano biomasoToman, Mihael Jožef ; Roš, MilenkoCompared to activated sludge, immobilised biomass proved to be more efficient when biodegradation is concerned. Different support particles may be used, among them quartz sand is rather common. ... Degradation of synthetic wastewater (with ingredients simulating food processing industry wastewater) in a laboratory fluidised bed reactor filled with 250-315 qm support material was studied as well as the appearance and development of fixed and suspended biomass. Biodegradation in tluidised bed reactors depends on N and P compoundsin raw wastewater. In case of treatment efficiency up to 95% according to BODs, the suitable ratio BODS:N:P is 100:3:0.5. In the experimental reactor, biomass distributed into three layers. Concerning biodegradation, the fluidised (turbulent) layer with immobilised biomass appeared to be the most important one. The biofilm development starts with theattachment of dispersed bacteria, followed by filamentous microorganisms (bacteria and fungi), protozoa and particular metazoa, e.g. nematodes. However, in the fluidised bed reactor biomass, no rotifers could be detected, although they seem to be an important part of the concomitant biocenosis of activated sludge.Source: Acta biologica slovenica : ABS. - ISSN 1408-3671 (Vol. 42, št. 2, 1999, str. 17-25)Type of material - article, component partPublish date - 1999Language - englishCOBISS.SI-ID - 10172121
