  • Paralelna tehnika in tehnika polovičnega kota intraoralnega rentgenskega slikanja zob = Intraoral radiography: a comparison of the paralleling technique and the bisecting angle technique
    Longar, Marjana
Two techniques of intraoral radiography are described and their advantages anddisadvantages are compared. At the Department of Dentistry in Ljubljana, the paralleling technique is the principal ... method; the bisecting angle technique is used only exceptionally, mainly in children and for the evaluation of maxillary canines in adults with a low palatal arch. The paralleling technique has the following advantages: it provides greater contrast of depicted structures; the image of the tooth on the film is practically never shortened; the interdental spaces are normally visible; and adequate hygienic standards can be maintained. The main disadvantage of the paralleling technique is its comparatively high cost. The bisecting angle technique has several shortcomings. Inaccurate determination of the imaginary bisector may result in shortening or lengthening of the tooth on the film. Moreover, when fingers are used to retain the film in the mouth, the film may be curved, and the result is a distorted image. Finally, the interdental spaces may not be visible if the central ray does not have an orthoradial direction. The report is illustrated with drawings and radiographs.
