  • The role of the preschool teacher in various concepts of early childhood education
    Batistič-Zorec, Marcela
The paper illustrates the changing role of the pre-school teacher in various concepts of early childhood education in pre-school institutions throughout history. The comparison includes various ... concepts of early childhood educationin the world, the Slovene concept of early childhood education from the socialist period and the recently adopted Pre-school Curriculum. The comparison, carried out on a survey of typical contrasts in pre-school teacherroles, refers to: autonomy of pre-school institutions and pre-school teachers; curriculum structuration; the problem of the expedience and purposefulness of education; the question of the responsibility of pre-school teacher or other adults; and the degree of (non-)directivity of pre-school teachers. The paper argues that the Pre-school Curriculum (1999) represents a high-quality professional basis for work in pre-school institutions, in line with current world trends, and in many points contrasts with the socialist concept of pre-school education and didactically oriented programmes prevalentin the 1960s and 1970s, not just in Slovenia, but also elsewhere around the world.
