    General practitioners or family physicians manage the majority of cases of respiratory tract infections. The present article describes current practices prevailing in the management of patients with ... lower respiratory tract infections among the general practitioners/family physicians in Slovenia and it discusses certain problems and suggests how they might be solved. Data on current practices were collected through two research projects: by a qualitative self- assessment project and a questionnaire completed by physicians-mentors for family medicine. The self-assessment project included 14 physicians who provided descriptions of 30 consecutive cases of respiratorytract infection. The questionnaire was completed by 52 physicians and was used to analyse the treatment methods in the management of patients with respiratory tract infections did not present any serious problems to the general practitioners family physicians however, considerable differences wereobserved between the diagnostics and therapeutic approaches used in the management of these patients.
