Acute infectious diarrhoea is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in infants and young children. The most common groups of viruses involved in enteric infections are rotaviruses (Reoviridae), ... noro and saporo virus (Caliciviridae), astrovirus (Astroviridae), enteric adenoviruses (Adenoviridae), and some others. Profuse watery diarrhea and vomiting in youngchildren may lead to dehydration, acidosis and electrolyte disbalance. Natural infection with enteric viruses does not ensure complete immunity, and multiple infections in the first few years of life are common; however, immuneresponses to these infections reduce the freqency and severity of subsequent infection.
