  • Vpliv pnevmatizacije mastoida na funkcionalni izid timpanoplastik tipa I = Influence of mastoid pneumatization on functional result of type I tympanoplasty
Battelino, Saba ; Gros, Anton, 1945-
The mastoid air cell system plays an important role in the physiology of middle ear function. It is also an important contributor to the pathophysiology of middle ear inflammatory diseases. Many ... diagnostic procedures have been designed for evaluating the mastoid air cell system. The extent of pneumatisation can be only clinically estimated by observing lateralradiographs; standard planimetry or computerised planimetry can be used. Lately, computed tomography has been used as an advanced radiographic tool for assessing mastoid pneumatisation. According to reports, postsurgical functional results also depend on the size of the mastoid cell system. Aeration of middle ear cavities appears to be the most important factor for achieving good results of tympanoplasty. A comparison was done of the pneumatisation surface of the mastoid air cell system with the functional results of type I tympanoplasty. The estimated hearing results were based on elevation of the air curve and on the residual conductive component of hearingloss at 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz. Calculation of linear regression was used for assessing the influence of mastoid pneumatisation on the functional results of type I tympanoplasty. The regression coefficients were calculated: Be`e`a on=2.4 (p=0.04) and Bresidual=3.18 (p=0.005). The incidenceof reperforations does not show a significant correlation to the extent of pneumatisation (p=0.338).
