The article deals with different methods available for temporary mechanical protection of prepared teeth. The advantages of the egg-shell technique are described and the indications for its use are ...presented. The technique offers protection to prepared teeth during the reprosthetic phase of treatment and allows the patient to become accustomed to the appearance and function of the future final restoration. Clinical and laboratory procedures used in the construction of egg-shell provisionals are described. The egg-shell technique should become a standard method in fixed prosthodontic rehabilitation, especially when the treatment protocol includes lengthy preparatory procedures.
