    Background: Transcatheter closure of patent ductus arteriosus is becoming an increasingly widespread alternative to surgical management. Methods: Between December 2000 and October 2006 39 patients ... underwent percutaneous closure of patent ductus arteriosus using the Amplatzer duct occluder. All patients were included in this study, which was performed with the aim of evaluating the safety and effectiveness of the method. Results: The patients' ages at the time of the procedure ranged from 1 to 69 years (median 5.5 years). The medianPDA diameter was 3 mm (range 1.5 to 10 mm). Transthoracic echocardiogramperformed 24 hours after the procedure confirmed complete closure in all patients. The follow-up period ranged from 0.1 to 5.8 years (median 2.8 years).
