  • Direct computer modelling methods for simulating precipitate behaviour in steels
    Brown, Stephen GR ...
This paper is concerned with the direct simulation of microstructural evolution in steels, particularly the nucleation and growth of precipitates. The size, distribution and stability of precipitates ... play a major role in high temperature applications for steels where such precipitates provide resistance to creep processes. A short review of the various direct modelling methods as applied to precipitates is given. Simulations of competitive precipitate growth are presented that have been generated using phase field models developed during the EU funded SmartWeld project. The potential benefits and current limitations of these models are discussed especially with respect to the required input data necessary to utilize such models and the difficulties associated with model validation.
