Stres in stresni odziv v času epidemije COVID-19 = Stress and the stress response during the COVID-19 outbreakKulovec, Domen, 1997- ...Stress is a systemic response to unfavourable physiological, psychological and environmental factors that may harm or potentially endanger our body. Acute stress does not present a threat and can ... even be considered beneficial, protecting our body from harm (eustress). Chronic stress however decreases cognitive functions and is the cause of many medical and mental illnesses. After experiencing a traumatic event, our body's expected response is acute stress disorder with anxiety and increased sympathetic nervous system activation as its main features. When the emotional and behavioural responses to a psychological factor are maladaptive, an adjustment disorder can develop. The Holmes- Rahe Stress Inventory is a tool to assess the stress load carried by an individual. The final score predicts the probability of stress disorder development in the next two years. If solely taking into account stressors related to the COVID-19 epidemic, the final score exceeds 150, which translates into a 50% chance of developing a stress disorder. An individual's reaction to stress depends on psychosocial factors, genetic predisposition, and one's way of perceiving stressors. The terms stress resistance and stress resilience are used to express the ratio of positive to negative stress. During the COVID-19 epidemic the World Health Organization and national health organizations have developed many recommendations to diminish the effect of stressors.Source: Medicinski razgledi : [medicinski pregledni, strokovni in raziskovalni članki]. - ISSN 0025-8121 (Letn. 60, št. 2, 2021, str. 153-170)Type of material - article, component partPublish date - 2021Language - slovenianCOBISS.SI-ID - 78122755
