  • Trdovratne epilepsije pri otrocih in mladostnikih = Severe epilepsies in children and adolescents

    Definitions of severe/difficult to treat/drug-resistant epilepsy and measures proposed to assess them are briefly summarised. The principles of managing patients suffering from severe epilepsies and ... most frequent pitfalls leading to management failure are reviewed on the basis of literature and own experience. The activities of epilepsy centres abroad and of the Epilepsy comprehensive programme developed during the recent years at the Slovene Centre for Epilepsy (Paediatric and Adolescent) are presented. Physicians in primary health care are urged to take a mroe active role in providing appropriate referrals and support to the patients with severe epilepsy and their families. Global Action against Epilepsy (WHO, ILAE 1997-2000) may be seen as a helpful framework to increase understanding for people with epilepsyand to exert public pressure on health authorities so far paradoxically not offering support to increase the levelof service for the most severe patients with epilepsy.
