We report on the first measurement of cross sections for exclusive deeply virtual pion electroproduction off the proton, ep -> e'n pi(+), above the resonance region at backward pion center-of-mass ...angles. The phi(pi)*-dependent cross sections were measured, from which we extracted three combinations of structure functions of the proton. Our results are compatible with calculations based on nucleon-to-pion transition distribution amplitudes (TDAs). These non-perturbative objects are defined as matrix elements of three-quark-light-cone-operators and characterize partonic correlations with a particular emphasis on baryon charge distribution inside a nucleon
Composites comprised of two semiconducting materials with suitable band gaps and band positions have been reported to be effective at enhancing photocatalytic activity in the visible light region of ...the electromagnetic spectrum. Here, we report the synthesis, complete structural and physical characterizations, and photocatalytic performance of a series of semiconducting oxide composites. UV light active tantalum oxide (Ta 2 O 5 ) and visible light active tantalum oxynitride (TaON) and tantalum nitride (Ta 3 N 5 ) were synthesized, and their composites with Bi 2 O 3 were prepared in situ using benzyl alcohol as solvent. The composite prepared using equimolar amounts of Bi 2 O 3 and Ta 2 O 5 leads to the formation of the ternary oxide, bismuth tantalate (BiTaO 4 ) upon calcination at 1000 °C. The composites and single phase bismuth tantalate formed were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area measurement, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and photoluminescence. The photocatalytic activities of the catalysts were evaluated for generation of hydrogen using aqueous methanol solution under visible light irradiation ( λ ≥ 420 nm). The results show that as-prepared composite photocatalysts extend the light absorption range and restrict photogenerated charge-carrier recombination, resulting in enhanced photocatalytic activity compared to individual phases. The mechanism for the enhanced photocatalytic activity for the heterostructured composites is elucidated based on observed activity, band positions calculations, and photoluminescence data.
Here, we report on the first measurement of the beam-spin asymmetry in the exclusive process of coherent deeply virtual Compton scattering off a nucleus. The experiment used the 6 GeV electron beam ...from the CEBAF accelerator at Jefferson Lab incident on a pressurized $^4$He gaseous target placed in front of the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS). The scattered electron was detected by CLAS and the photon by a dedicated electromagnetic calorimeter at forward angles. To ensure the exclusivity of the process, a specially designed radial time projection chamber was used to detect the recoiling $^4$He nuclei. We measured beam-spin asymmetries larger than those observed on the free proton in the same kinematic domain. From these, we were able to extract, in a model-independent way, the real and imaginary parts of the only $^4$He Compton form factor, $\cal H_A$. This first measurement of coherent deeply virtual Compton scattering on the $^4$He nucleus, with a fully exclusive final state via nuclear recoil tagging, leads the way toward 3D imaging of the partonic structure of nuclei.

The data were collected over a large kinematic phase space and divided into 110 four-dimensional bins of Q2, xB, -t and Φ. Large values of asymmetry moments clearly indicate a substantial contribution to the polarized structure functions from transverse virtual photon amplitudes. The interpretation of experimental data in terms of generalized parton distributions (GPDs) provides the first insight on the chiral-odd GPDs H˜T and ET, and complement previous measurements of unpolarized structure functions sensitive to the GPDs HT and E¯T. These data provide a crucial input for parametrizations of essentially unknown chiral-odd GPDs and will strongly influence existing theoretical calculations based on the handbag formalism.

The requirement of intermediate line component in the recently observed spectra of several AGNs points to possibility of the existence of a physically separate region between broad line region (BLR) ...and narrow line region (NLR). In this paper we explore the emission from intermediate line region (ILR) by using the photoionization simulations of the gas clouds distributed radially from the AGN center. The gas clouds span distances typical for BLR, ILR and NLR, and the appearance of dust at the sublimation radius is fully taken into account in our model. Single cloud structure is calculated under the assumption of the constant pressure. We show that the slope of the power law cloud density radial profile does not affect the existence of ILR in major types of AGN. We found that the low ionization iron line, Fe~II, appears to be highly sensitive for the presence of dust and therefore becomes potential tracer of dust content in line emitting regions. We show that the use of disk-like cloud density profile computed at the upper part of the accretion disc atmosphere reproduces the observed properties of the line emissivities. In particular, the distance of H\({\beta}\) line inferred from our model agrees with that obtained from the reverberation mapping studies in Sy1 galaxy NGC 5548.
