This study investigates the influence of Big Five personality traits, social self-efficacy, and social support on social entrepreneurial intention (SEI) and how gender differences moderate the ...relationships among the associated variables. Data from business students of two public universities of Bangladesh were collected using questionnaires yielding a total sample of 354 students. Structural equation modelling (SEM) with a partial least squares method was applied to analyse the data. The findings of this study revealed that agreeableness, conscientiousness, extraversion, emotional stability, openness, social self-efficacy, and social support significantly influence SEI. The result also showed that gender has a moderating effect on being a social entrepreneur in some instances. This study will help policymakers, and academic scholars understand how personality aspects and social support influence business students in their intention process to become social entrepreneurs. This study integrates both individual and situational factors to understand SEI. This study also incorporates social self-efficacy into SEI research. It is one of the very few studies in social entrepreneurship literature to investigate the moderating role of gender on SEI.
Purpose
This paper aims to investigate the role of business intelligence systems (BIS) in the relationship between organizational learning culture and organizational performance in the health-care ...context.
Design/methodology/approach
A quantitative approach was applied to identify the hypothesized relationships. Data were obtained from a survey of 217 mid- and top-level managers of health-care organizations in Bangladesh. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the data.
Findings
The findings attest to the effectiveness of the mediating role of BIS in the relationship between organizational learning culture and organizational performance within health-care organizations. The theoretical and practical implications of the findings are also discussed.
Research limitations/implications
The study data were collected from a single country, which made generalization difficult. Further research should be carried out to replicate the present study with different organizational cultural variables and organizational outcomes, such as patient satisfaction.
Practical implications
This study provides a clear direction for hospital managers to invest more resources in an effective learning culture, to be positively mediated by BIS and to eventually enhance their hospitals’ performance. In addition, this study also suggests that hospital managers should focus on building a knowledge-based learning culture, to effectively use the information provided by BIS.
Originality/value
Despite the prior study on the applications of BIS and their value to an organization, little is known about the impact of organizational learning culture on BIS in health-care organizations. The findings give support to the argument that organizational learning culture plays an important role in BIS that, in turn, affects business performance.
Purpose - This study was designed to specifically explore confirmation and perceived usefulness associated with mobile food ordering apps (MFOAs) in consideration of their impacts upon attitudes, ...satisfaction and intention to continuously use. Design/methodology/approach - The research utilized the convenience sampling to gather data from 250 respondents having prior experience with MFOAs during COVID-19 pandemic period in Bangladesh. The Structural Equation Modeling technique was applied to analyze the data using SmartPLS 3 software. Findings - This study's results showed that customers' perceived confirmation and usefulness were significant in determining their dinning attitudes. Besides, customers' dining attitudes were positively related to e-satisfaction. Finally, the customers' continuance intention to use MFOAs was significantly influenced by their e-satisfaction. Research limitations/implications - Restaurants managers should focus on online sales through MFOAs during the pandemic period since social distancing is a key strategy to manage COVID-19. Customers should be assured that the safety measures are undertaken while delivering the food. Originality/value - This study incorporated the expectation-confirmation theory and technology acceptance model and tested it in the context of MFOAs.
PurposeBased on the social exchange theory, the paper aims to explore the effects of work–life support (WLS) practices on subjective well-being through work engagement and job ...satisfaction.Design/methodology/approachData of 332 bank employees were collected in three waves and analyzed using AMOS and PROCESS macro.FindingsThe study revealed that WLS practices influenced employees' subjective well-being both directly and indirectly. The study's results further supported the serial mediation of the indirect effect through work engagement and job satisfaction.Practical implicationsOrganizational WLS practices are supposed to play an effective role in helping employees increase subjective well-being. Organizations should attach importance to implementing WLS practices to ensure that employees are engaged and satisfied. Furthermore, organizations should undertake and communicate favorable WLS practices to stimulate employees' work and non-work well-being.Originality/valueThe study is the first that examines the impact of WLS practices on employees' subjective well-being. Furthermore, the study offers novel insights regarding the dual mediation effect of work engagement and job satisfaction in the relationship between WLS practices and subjective well-being.
PurposeAligning employees' goals with organizational goals is an overarching objective of an organization to increase employees' outcomes and, ultimately, the firm's performance. Employees' perceived ...goal congruence is proposed to be an important mediator of the effect of high-performance work systems (HPWS) on organizational citizenship behaviors (OCB). In this paper, the authors proposed and tested a moderated mediation model that depicted how servant leadership increased or restrained these effects.Design/methodology/approachThis study used data from 56 managers and 322 employees working in Bangladeshi organizations. The study conducted cross-level analyses using hierarchical linear modeling (HLM) to examine the hypothetical relationships among variables.FindingsThis study revealed that employees' perceived goal congruence mediated the influence of HPWS on OCB. Consistent with the moderated mediation prediction, employee-perceived goal congruence mediated the relationship between HPWS and OCB when servant leadership is high.Originality/valueThis study examined how and when HPWS affects OCB by incorporating perceived goal congruence and servant leadership as mediating and moderating variables, respectively.
Wireless power transfer has experienced a rapid growth in recent years due to the need for miniature medical devices with prolonged operation lifetime. The current implants utilize onboard batteries ...as their main source of power. The use of batteries is not, however, ideal because they have constrained lifetime requiring periodic replacement. Energy can be supplied to the implantable devices through wireless power transfer approaches including inductive, ultrasonic, radio frequency, and heat. The implantable devices driven by energy harvesters can operate continuously, offering ease of use and maintenance. Inductive coupling is a conventional approach for the transmission of power to implantable devices. However, the inductive coupling approach is affected by tissue absorption losses inside the human body. To power implantable devices such as neural, cochlear, and artificial heart devices, the inductive coupling approach is being used. On the other hand, ultrasonic is an emerging approach for the transmission of power to implantable devices. The enhanced efficiency and low propagation loss make ultrasonic wireless power transfer an attractive approach for use with implantable devices. This paper presents a study on the inductive and ultrasonic wireless power transfer techniques used to power implantable devices. The inductive and ultrasonic techniques are analyzed from their sizes, operating distance, power transfer efficiency, output power, and overall system efficiency standpoints. The inductive coupling approach can deliver more power with higher efficiency compared to the ultrasonic technique. On the other hand, the ultrasonic technique can transmit power to longer distances. The advantages and disadvantages of both techniques as well as the challenges to implement them are discussed.
The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing consumers' behavioral and continuance intention to use mobile food delivery applications (MFDAs) during COVID-19 pandemic. Based on ...the theory of Planned Behavior, we examined the impact of social isolation, food safety, delivery hygiene, subjective norms, dining attitudes, and behavioral control on behavioral and continuous intention to use MFDAs. Data were collected from 432 users and analyzed using Structured Equation Modeling. The results showed that delivery hygiene, subjective norms, attitudes, and behavioral control were related to both behavioral and continuance intention to use MFDAs, whereas perceived food safety was related to behavioral intention and social isolation was related to continuance intention. Moreover, behavioral intention mediated the impact of perceived food safety, delivery hygiene, attitudes, and behavioral control on continuance intention. This study incorporated situational factors into theory of Planned Behavior, which might guide the practitioners to use MFDAs during COVID-19.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is still a relatively new field of research, and its potential to be used in the healthcare and medical sectors is enormous. In the last five years, IoT has been a go-to ...option for various applications such as using sensors for different features, machine-to-machine communication, etc., but precisely in the medical sector, it is still lagging far behind compared to other sectors. Hence, this study emphasises IoT applications in medical fields, Medical IoT sensors and devices, IoT platforms for data visualisation, and artificial intelligence in medical applications. A systematic review considering PRISMA guidelines on research articles as well as the websites on IoMT sensors and devices has been carried out. After the year 2001, an integrated outcome of 986 articles was initially selected, and by applying the inclusion-exclusion criterion, a total of 597 articles were identified. 23 new studies have been finally found, including records from websites and citations. This review then analyses different sensor monitoring circuits in detail, considering an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) scenario, device applications, and the data management system, including IoT platforms for the patients. Lastly, detailed discussion and challenges have been outlined, and possible prospects have been presented.
PurposeThis study considered organizational politics as a source of stress and examined its spillover effects on the family domain. By integrating the work–home resource theory and transactional ...theory of stress, the authors developed a moderated mediation model that examined the moderating role of family support in the relationship between employee's perceptions of organizational politics and their family satisfaction through work-to-family conflict.Design/methodology/approachThe authors examined the moderated mediation model using a sample of 223 full-time employees in Bangladesh. Data were collected using a three-wave survey research design.FindingsThe results indicate that organizational politics is negatively related to family satisfaction; work-to-family conflict medicates this relationship. Besides, family support attenuates the mediating effect of work-to-family conflict on the relationship between organizational politics and family satisfaction.Practical implicationsManagers should reduce the extent of organizational politics to avoid its impact on the nonwork domain. Moreover, social support from family members might play a crucial role in reducing the negative consequence of organizational politics in the family domain. By taking human resource practices such as training, increased communication, family-friendly policies, organizations may improve the ability of workers to cope with the negative consequences of organizational politics.Originality/valueThe current study uncovered the spillover effect of organizational politics on the nonwork domain. This research contributed to the burgeoning stream of organizational politics and work–family interface literature by investigating the influence of organizational politics in undermining family satisfaction and exploring the mediating mechanism linking organizational politics and family satisfaction as well as the boundary conditions of family social support.
In this era of technological advancement, the flow of an enormous amount of information has become such an inevitable phenomenon that makes a path for the takeover of the internet of things (IoT) ...based smart grid from the currently available grid system. In a smart grid, demand-side management plays a crucial role in reducing the generation capacity by shifting the user energy consumption from peak period to off-peak period, which requires detailed knowledge of the user consumption at the individual appliance level. Non-intrusive load monitoring (NILM) provides an exceptionally low-cost solution for determining individual appliance levels using a single-point measurement. This paper proposed an IoT-based real-time non-intrusive load classification (RT-NILC) system considering the variability of supply voltage using low-frequency data. Due to the unavailability of smart meters at the household level in Bangladesh, a data-acquisition system (DAS) is developed. The DAS is capable of measuring and storing rms voltage, rms current, active power, and power factor data at a sampling rate of 1 Hz. These data are processed to train different multilabel classification models. The best-performed classification model has been selected and utilized for the implementation of RT-NILC over IoT. The Firebase real-time online database is considered for data storage to flow the data in two-way between end-user and service provider (energy distributor). The GPRS module is used for wireless data transmission as a Wi-Fi network may not be available everywhere. Windows and web applications are developed for data visualization. The proposed system has been validated in real-time, using rms voltage, rms current, and active power measurements at a real house. Even under supply voltage variability, the performance evaluation of the RT-NILC system has shown an average classification accuracy of more than 94%. Good classification accuracy and the overall operation of the IoT-based information exchange systems ensure the proposed system's applicability for efficient energy management.
