Pay transparency is quickly ascending to the forefront of human resources compensation issues. Employees—especially younger employees—at organizations and society in general are seeking fairer ...outcomes and more transparency with compensation falls in line with those expectations. Governments are responding by drafting and passing new pay transparency legislation. Based on the research conducted, pay transparency can yield benefits such as helping to close pay gaps, reducing employee turnover, and elevating trust with management and others, but can also create confusion and negative outcomes. This article provides a summary of what pay transparency is, why it is gaining in importance, how it impacts organizations and where the trend may be heading. A list of strategic recommendations is offered for organizational leaders to consider when navigating through an environment with greater pay transparency.
This correlative study examined the association between three elements of an innovative workplace culture and servant leadership, a leadership model that places emphasis on followers instead of ...leaders. An innovative workplace culture was measured by analyzing behaviors, climate, and values, as defined by the Building Blocks of Innovation model. Servant leadership was measured through the Organizational Leadership Assessment (OLA) instrument. The study yielded a sample size of 204 participants who worked in one global manufacturing organization in various countries in North America, Europe, and Asia. The participants worked at various levels, ranging from hourly manufacturing workers to the top management, and in different departments. The results of the study yielded a strong correlation between behaviors and climate and servant leadership and a moderate correlation between values and servant leadership. The probability of the findings were found to be within the confidence level set by the researcher. The findings of this quantitative study are important because they demonstrate a relationship between servant leadership and key elements of an innovative workplace culture. It is hoped this research provides further evidence of the value of practicing servant leadership and promotes further investigation into both topics.
