The interfacial regions at organic-ferromagnetic hybrid structures are critical to affect the spin injection and transport in organic spin valves (OSVs) since spin-polarized charge carriers across ...these interfaces. Understanding the interfacial behavers at FM-OSC-FM heterostructures is crucial for the design and operation of OSV devices. Herein, we investigated influence of different termination layers of lanthanum strontium manganite (LSMO) on the interfacial electronic and magnetic properties of LSMO/Alq 3 heterostructures. Different termination layers of LSMO with LSO, MnO 2 and mixed terminations were prepared to examine the spin interface of LSMO/Alq 3 . From experimental results, the outermost layer of LSO and mixed terminations exhibited significant SrO segregation while less segregation was found for MnO 2 . In addition, the surface SrO segregation correlates to the variation of surface magnetic properties and the formation of surface dipole at the mixed LMSO/Alq 3 , MnO 2 -ter/Alq 3 , and LSO-ter/Alq 3 interfaces.
In order to investigate the clinical and epidemiological rules of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), rates and levels SARS coronavirus (SARS-CoV) IgG antibodies of the patients and community ...populations from several areas were detected.
Indirect immunofluorescent assay (IFA) and double-antigen sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) were used to detect the SARS coronavirus-specific IgG antibodies in sera of 1700, including 1453 general populations from Hongkong, Marco, Guangzhou and Peking and 257 SARS patients from Guangzhou and Peking. The dynamics of the serum antibodies of SARS patients were observed from 3 to 360 days after onset of symptoms.
90% of 257 patient serum specimens after 20 days of disease onset showed positive SARS-CoV IgG either using ELISA or IFA. 257 SARS patients, antibodies titers increased steadily in early 4 to 6 months after onset of SARS. The titers of most cases came to the peak in the 6th month. then antibodies titers declined rapidly in some cases. However, all specimens still were positive for SARS-CoV IgG in the 48th month.
This study suggest that few inapparent infectious patients exist during SARS epidemic. Serum IgG antibodies has diagnostic value for SARS in the late course of disease and the antibodies present more than 48 months.
Cerebral haemorrhage in anticoagulated patients with mechanical valvular prosthesis poses an uncommon but difficult management problem. Four such patients are presented: one patient had delayed ...haemorrhagic transformation of a preexisting cerebral infarct, one probably had de novo haemorrhage complicating hypertension and in two patients cerebral haemorrhage was associated with excessive anticoagulation. Conservative management including the use of fresh frozen plasma, delayed heparinisation and warfarinisation was used. Both patients with anticoagulant overdose died as a result of extensive haemorrhage despite the drainage of cerebellar haematoma in one patient. The remaining two patients survived with minimal neurological deficits. Diagnosis of the underlying cause of cerebral haemorrhage, and the timing of heparinisation and anticoagulation are discussed.
AIM:To investigate the use of lipid emulsion substitutingfor glucose in postoperative hypocaloric peripheral parenteral nutrition (HPPN).METHODS:This prospective, randomized study was conducted on 20 ...postoperative gastrointestinal cancer patients. They were randomized and equally divided into interventional group and control group, and both were administered isocaloric and isonitrogenous diets with for lipid emulsion substituting for partial glucose loads in the interventional group.RESULTS: Nutritional parameters and biochemical data were compared between the two groups before and after 6-d of HPPN. Most investigated variables showed no significant changes after administration of HPPN with lipid emulsion. However, the postoperative triglyceride level was significantly lower in the interventional group than in the control group (P < 0.05). In comparison with lipid emulsion, glucose administration resulted in less decrease in postoperative prealbumin level (P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: In addition to supplementing with essential fatty acid, it seems that HPPN with lipid emulsion is well-tolerated and beneficial to postoperative gastrointestinal cancer patients.
Background: Oral cancer, the largest subset of head and neck cancer, has become one of the most lethal malignancies during the last two decades. Although several diagnostic tools have been applied ...for the early detection of oral malignancies, it is still urgent to identify novel tumor markers. In this study, we explored the cell surface N-glycomes of primary cultured human oral keratinocytes (HOK), immortalized human gingival keratinocytes (SG cells), and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OC2). Methods: Enzymatically hydrolyzed cell surface N-glycans were analyzed by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. Results: High levels of fucosylated N-glycans, especially core-fucosylated N-glycans, were observed on the OC2 cell surface whereas the major N-glycans on SG and HOK cells were high mannose type. In addition, the mRNA expression level of fucosyltransferase 8 was elevated significantly in OC2 cells than in SG and HOK cells. Core-fucosylated glycoproteins of OC2 cells were then purified with lectin affinity chromatography and a key adhesion molecule in cancer cells, CD147, was identified. Finally, overexpression of cell surface CD147 was confirmed on OC2 cells and oral cancer tissues (tissue array). Conclusions: CD147 was discovered by glycoproteomic approaches and suggested to be a potential novel tumor marker for oral cancer diagnosis.
