Among many machine learning applications, classification is one of the important tasks. Most classification algorithms have been designed under the assumption that the number of samples for each ...class is approximately balanced. However, if the conventional classification approaches are applied to a class imbalanced dataset, it is likely to cause misclassification and, as a result, may distort classification performance results. Thus, in this study, we consider imbalanced classification problems and adopt an efficient preprocessing technique to improve the classification performances. In particular, we focus on borderline noise and outlier samples that belong to the majority class since they may influence classification performance. For this, we propose a hybrid resampling method, called BOD-based under-sampling, which is based on density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise (DBSCAN) approach as well as noise and outlier detection methods, that is, borderline noise factor (BNF) and outlierness based on neighborhood (OBN) to divide majority class samples into four distinctive categories, i.e., safe, borderline noise, rare, and outlier. Specifically, we first determine the borderline noise samples in the overlapped region using the BNF method. Secondly, we use the OBN method to detect outlier samples and apply the DBSCAN approach to cluster the samples. Based on the results obtained from the sample identification analysis, we then segregate the safe category samples which are not abnormal samples while keeping the rest of the samples as rare samples. Finally, we remove some of safe samples by using the random under-sampling (RUS) method and verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm through the comprehensive experimental analysis with considering several class imbalance datasets.
Background
There is increasing interest in the influence of body composition on oncological outcomes. We evaluated the role of skeletal muscle and fat among patients with gastric cancer (GC) who ...underwent gastrectomy with or without adjuvant chemotherapy, as well as those changes’ associations with survival outcomes.
Methods
The present study evaluated 136 patients with GC who were enrolled in the CLASSIC Trial at Yonsei Cancer Center. Baseline body compositions including skeletal muscle area, Hounsfield units (HU), visceral fat area, and subcutaneous fat area were measured by preoperative computed tomography (CT). CT before and after the gastrectomy were used to determine the 6-month relative changes in body composition parameters. Continuous variables were dichotomized according to the best cutoff values by Contal and O’Quigley method.
Results
Seventy-three patients (53.7%) underwent surgery alone, and 63 patients (46.3%) underwent surgery followed by adjuvant chemotherapy. The baseline body composition parameters were not associated with disease-free survival (DFS) or overall survival (OS). Except for the HU, the marked loss of muscle, visceral fat, or subcutaneous fat significantly predicted shorter DFS and OS. Patients with a marked loss in at least one significant body composition parameter had significantly shorter DFS (hazard ratio 2.9, 95% confidence interval 1.7–4.8,

Conclusions
Marked loss in body composition parameters significantly predicted shorter DFS and OS among patients with GC who underwent gastrectomy. Postoperative nutrition and active healthcare interventions could improve the prognosis of these GC patients.
The aim of this study was to determine the anatomical features of the deep temporal arteries (DTAs) and thereby provide clinical information for the temple augmentation procedure. Forty‐two adult ...hemifaces from 15 Korean and 6 Thai cadavers (12 males, 9 females; mean age at death, 79.6 years) with no history of trauma or surgical procedure on the temple area were used for anatomical study. A detailed dissection was performed to identify the locations of the anterior and posterior deep temporal arteries (ADTA and PDTA) with reference to the vertical plane passing through the zygomatic tubercle. Fifty‐eight healthy Korean participants (31 males and 27 females; mean age, 24.7 years) were included in the ultrasonographic study. The distance from the bone to the DTAs was measured at the level of the zygomatic tubercle (HZt) and the eyebrow (HEb). The DTAs were not found within 7.2–12.6 mm posterior to the zygomatic tubercle; instead, the locations varied widely at the HEb. The distances between the bone and the ADTA were 1.7 ± 1.2 mm (mean ± SD) and 1.3 ± 0.8 mm, and those between the bone and the PDTA were 2.1 ± 1.2 mm and 2.0 ± 1.4 mm at HZt and HEb, respectively. Our findings indicate that at HZt, the area 1 cm posterior to the zygomatic tubercle may be a safe area for deep temple augmentation procedures. However, because the distribution patterns of the DTAs at HEb and depth of the DTAs are variable, additional care is required to minimize the risks of the procedure.
The seaweeds were collected from the coast of Jeju Island, South Korea. We investigated ethanol extracts from seaweed as potential antiobesity agents by testing their effect on adipogenic ...differentiation in 3T3-L1 cells. Among the red algae extracts tested, the Plocamium telfairiae extract (PTE) showed the highest inhibitory effect on lipogenesis in adipocytes and, thus, was selected as a potential antiobesity agent. PTE treatment significantly decreased the expression of the adipogenic-specific proteins peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ, CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein-α, sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1, and fatty acid-binding protein 4 compared with that in the untreated 3T3-L1 cells. PTE also inhibited high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity in male C57BL/6 mice. Oral administration of PTE significantly reduced the body weight, fatty liver, amount of white adipose tissue, and levels of triglyceride and glucose in the tested animals. Taken together, these data demonstrate that PTE can be developed as a therapeutic agent for obesity.

Considering the shift to online education during the COVID‐19 pandemic, new and easily accessible educational videos and content on clinical anatomy are necessary. This study utilized numerous ...references and data on the anatomy of Asian facial muscles and blood vessels to accurately depict human anatomy through face painting. It aimed to provide clinicians accurate educational video content on anatomy to help prevent possible complications during noninvasive facial and surgical procedures. A 26‐year‐old Korean‐Chinese male volunteer was used as a face painting model. The location of the blood vessels of the face was confirmed through ultrasonography images using a real‐time two‐dimensional B‐mode. The model's face was painted by an artist majoring in anatomy. To reveal most anatomical structures on both sides of the face, the left side showed the structures observed when the skin and superficial fat layer are removed, and the right side revealed the deeper layer structures that can be seen when some muscles are cut. Fifteen superficial and deep muscles important in esthetic procedures were meticulously painted on the face. The face painting took a total of 6 h, and the video was edited to 5 min. This study merged the advantages of 2D and 3D by painting directly on the skin surface of a living model. Thus, it can provide more dynamic surface anatomy data. These contents inform clinicians about 3D anatomic location, which can help avoid complications when performing clinical procedures on the face.
The aim of this study was to assess the potential hypertensive effects of the IGTGIPGIW peptide purified from Hippocampus abdominalis alcalase hydrolysate (HA) for application in the functional food ...industry. We investigated the antihypertensive effects of IGTGIPGIW in vitro by assessing nitric oxide production in EA.hy926 endothelial cells, which is a major factor affecting vasorelaxation. The potential vasorelaxation effect was evaluated using 4-amino-5-methylamino-2′,7′-difluorofluorescein diacetate, a fluorescent stain. IGTGIPGIW significantly increased the expression of endothelial-derived relaxing factors, including endothelial nitric oxide synthase and protein kinase B, in EA.hy926 cells. Furthermore, oral administration of IGTGIPGIW significantly lowered the systolic blood pressure (183.60 ± 1.34 mmHg) and rapidly recovered the diastolic blood pressure (143.50 ± 5.55 mmHg) in the spontaneously hypertensive rat model in vivo. Our results demonstrate the antihypertensive activity of the IGTGIPGIW peptide purified from H. abdominalis and indicate its suitability for application in the functional food industry.
A biocompatible, heterogeneous, fucose-rich, sulfated polysaccharide (fucoidan) is biosynthesized in brown seaweed. In this study, fucoidan was isolated from
(PAC) using celluclast-assisted ...extraction, purified, and evaluated for its anti-inflammatory potential in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW 264.7 cells. Structural analyses were performed using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy. Among the purified fucoidans, fucoidan fraction 5 (F5) exhibited strong inhibitory activity against LPS-induced nitric oxide (NO) production and pro-inflammatory cytokine generation through the regulation of iNOS/COX-2, MAPK, and NF-κB signaling in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells. Determination of the structural characteristics indicated that purified F5 exhibited characteristics similar to those of commercial fucoidan. In addition, further analyses suggested that F5 inhibits LPS-induced toxicity, cell death, and NO generation in zebrafish models. Taken together, these findings imply that
fucoidans have exceptional anti-inflammatory action, both in vitro and in vivo, and that they may have prospective uses in the functional food sector.

Protein derived the marine Chlorella ellipsoidea was hydrolyzed using different proteases (papain, trypsin, pepsin and α-chymotrypsin) for production of antioxidative peptide, and the antioxidant activities of their hydrolysates were investigated using free radical scavenging assay by electron spin resonance spin-trapping technique. Among the hydrolysates, the peptic hydrolysate exhibited the highest antioxidant activity compared to other hydrolysates. To identify antioxidant peptide, the peptic hydrolysate was purified using consecutive chromatographic methods, and the antioxidant peptide was identified to be Leu-Asn-Gly-Asp-Val-Trp (702.2Da) by Q-TOF ESI mass spectroscopy. The antioxidant peptide scavenged peroxyl, DPPH and hydroxyl radicals at the IC50 values of 0.02, 0.92 and 1.42mM, respectively. The purified peptide enhanced cell viability against AAPH-induced cytotoxicity on normal cells. Furthermore, the purified peptide reduced the proportion of apoptotic and necrotic cells induced by AAPH, as demonstrated by decreased sub-G1 hypodiploid cells and decreased apoptotic body formation by flow cytometry.

The in vitro and in vivo antioxidant potentials of a polysaccharide isolated from aloe vera gel were investigated. Enzymatic extracts were prepared from aloe vera gel by using ten digestive enzymes including five carbohydrases and five proteases. Among them, the highest yield was obtained with the Viscozyme extract and the same extract showed the best radical scavenging activity. An active polysaccharide was purified from the Viscozyme extract using ethanol-added separation and anion exchange chromatography. Purified aloe vera polysaccharide (APS) strongly scavenged radicals including DPPH, hydroxyl and alkyl radicals. In addition, APS showed a protective effect against AAPH-induced oxidative stress and cell death in Vero cells as well as in the in vivo zebrafish model. In this study, it is proved that both the in vitro and in vivo antioxidant potentials of APS could be further utilized in relevant industrial applications.
