Though speech enhancement (SE) can be used to improve speech quality in noisy environments, it may also cause distortions that degrade the performance of automatic speech recognition (ASR) models. ...Self-supervised pre-training, on the other hand, has been shown to improve the noise robustness of ASR models. However, the potential of the (optimal) integration of SE and self-supervised pre-training still remains unclear. In this paper, we propose a novel self-supervised pre-training framework that incorporates SE to improve ASR performance in noisy environments. First, in the pre-training phase the original noisy waveform or the waveform obtained by SE is fed into the self-supervised model to learn the contextual representation, where the quantized clean speech acts as the target. Second, we propose a dual-attention fusion method to fuse the features of noisy and enhanced speech, which can compensate for the information loss caused by separately using individual modules. Due to the flexible exploitation of clean/noisy/enhanced branches, the proposed method turns out to be a generalization of some existing noise-robust ASR models, e.g., enhanced wav2vec2.0. Finally, experimental results on both synthetic and real noisy datasets show that the proposed joint training approach can improve the ASR performance under various noisy settings, leading to a stronger noise robustness.
There is a gap in knowledge how maternal exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) is associated with offspring congenital heart defects (CHDs). In this case-control study, we collected data on ...749 fetuses with CHDs and 880 fetuses without any congenital anomalies to examine the association of maternal ETS with fetal CHDs and the potentially moderating effect by maternal hazardous and noxious substances (HNS), periconceptional folate intake and paternal smoking. Maternal exposure to ETS in first trimester was associated with increased risk of CHDs in a dose-response gradient, with the AORs (95% CI) were1.38 (1.00-1.92), 1.60 (1.07-2.41), and 4.94 (2.43-10.05) for ETS < 1 h/day, 1-2 h/day, and ≥ 2 h/day, respectively. With the doubly unexposed group as reference categories, AORs for maternal ETS exposure ≥ 2 h/day in the absence of folate intake, in the presence of HNS exposure or paternal smoking, were 7.21, 11.43, and 8.83, respectively. Significant additive interaction between ETS exposure and maternal folate intake on CHDs was detected. Maternal ETS exposure during first trimester may increase the risk of offspring CHDs in a dose-response shape, and such effect may be modified by maternal folate intake or other potential factors.
Sustainable development can be achieved through Green finance, which incorporates environmental governance principles into the financial sector. The panel data model is employed to examine how green ...financing affects sustainable development in China from 1990 to 2020. Green finance has a considerable negative influence on pollution in China and positive impact on sustainable development. Technology innovation, renewable energy increase level of sustainable development. Moreover, for every 1% growth in renewable energy investment results in 1.243% rise in private sector investment. Investment, commerce, and human capital all have a significant effect on the sustainable development. In addition, green financing can help improve the environment by encouraging technical advancement. Non-state-owned businesses have this mediating effect, but state-owned companies do not. This is because of the heterogeneity of business ownership. Environmental pollution can be reduced by using green financial instruments to encourage the development of environmentally friendly technologies.
•Green finance positively impacts sustainable development in China.•Renewable energy and technological innovation contribute to Green finance.•Sustainable innovation and renewable energy promotes green finance.
The impact of fusion as a supplement to short-segment instrumentation for the treatment of thoracolumbar burst fractures is unclear. We conducted a controlled clinical trial to define the effect of ...fusion on lumbar spine and patient-related functional outcomes.
From 2000 to 2002, seventy-three consecutive patients with a single-level Denis type-B burst fracture involving the thoracolumbar spine and a load-sharing score of <or=6 were managed with posterior pedicle screw instrumentation. The patients were randomly assigned to treatment with posterolateral fusion (fusion group, n = 37) or without posterolateral fusion (nonfusion group, n = 36). The patients were followed for at least five years after surgery and were assessed with regard to clinical and radiographic outcomes. Clinical outcomes were evaluated with use of the Frankel scale, the motor score of the American Spinal Injury Association, a visual analog scale, and the Short Form-36 (SF-36) questionnaire. Radiographic outcomes were assessed on the basis of the local kyphosis angle and loss of kyphosis correction.
No significant difference in radiographic or clinical outcomes was noted between the patients managed with the two techniques. Both operative time and blood loss were significantly less in the nonfusion group compared with the fusion group (p < 0.05). Twenty-five of the thirty-seven patients in the fusion group still had some degree of donor-site pain at the time of the latest examination.
Posterolateral bone-grafting is not necessary when a Denis type-B thoracolumbar burst fracture associated with a load-sharing score of <or=6 is treated with short-segment pedicle screw fixation.
LEPA is one of the most conserved translation factors and is found from bacteria to higher plants. However, the physiological function of the chloroplast LEPA homolog in higher plants remains ...unknown. Herein, we demonstrate the physiological role of cpLEPA in enabling efficient photosynthesis in higher plants. The cplepa-1 mutant displays slightly high chlorophyll fluorescence and pale green phenotypes under normal growth conditions. The growth of the cplepa-1 mutant is reduced when grown on soil, and greater reduction is observed under intense light illumination. Photosynthetic activity is impaired in the cplepa-1 mutants, which is reflected in the decreased steady-state levels of chloroplast proteins. In vivo protein labeling experiments explained the decrease in the steady-state levels of chloroplast proteins. An abnormal association of the chloroplast-encoded mRNAs with ribosomes suggests that the protein synthesis deficiencies in cplepa-1 are due to defects in translation initiation in the chloroplasts. The cpLEPA protein appears to be an essential translation factor that promotes the efficiency of chloroplast protein synthesis.
The hybrid deep neural network (DNN) and hidden Markov model (HMM) has recently achieved dramatic performance gains in automatic speech recognition (ASR). The DNN-based acoustic model is very ...powerful but its learning process is extremely time-consuming. In this paper, we propose a novel DNN-based acoustic modeling framework for speech recognition, where the posterior probabilities of HMM states are computed from multiple DNNs (mDNN), instead of a single large DNN, for the purpose of parallel training towards faster turnaround. In the proposed mDNN method all tied HMM states are first grouped into several disjoint clusters based on data-driven methods. Next, several hierarchically structured DNNs are trained separately in parallel for these clusters using multiple computing units (e.g. GPUs). In decoding, the posterior probabilities of HMM states can be calculated by combining outputs from multiple DNNs. In this work, we have shown that the training procedure of the mDNN under popular criteria, including both frame-level cross-entropy and sequence-level discriminative training, can be parallelized efficiently to yield significant speedup. The training speedup is mainly attributed to the fact that multiple DNNs are parallelized over multiple GPUs and each DNN is smaller in size and trained by only a subset of training data. We have evaluated the proposed mDNN method on a 64-hour Mandarin transcription task and the 320-hour Switchboard task. Compared to the conventional DNN, a 4-cluster mDNN model with similar size can yield comparable recognition performance in Switchboard (only about 2% performance degradation) with a greater than 7 times speed improvement in CE training and a 2.9 times improvement in sequence training, when 4 GPUs are used.

The objective of this study was to provide theoretically feasible strategies by understanding the relationship between the immune microenvironment and the diagnosis and prognosis of AML patients. To ...this end, we built a ceRNA network with lncRNAs as the core and analyzed the related lncRNAs in the immune microenvironment by bioinformatics analysis.
AML transcriptome expression data and immune-related gene sets were obtained from TCGA and ImmPort. Utilizing Pearson correlation analysis, differentially expressed immune-related lncRNAs were identified. Then, the LASSO-Cox regression analysis was performed to generate a risk signature consisting immune-related lncRNAs. Accuracy of signature in predicting patient survival was evaluated using univariate and multivariate analysis. Next, GO and KEGG gene enrichment and ssGSEA were carried out for pathway enrichment analysis of 183 differentially expressed genes, followed by drug sensitivity and immune infiltration analysis with pRRophetic and CIBERSORT, respectively. Cytoscape was used to construct the ceRNA network for these lncRNAs.
816 common lncRNAs were selected to acquire the components related to prognosis. The final risk signature established by multivariate Cox and stepwise regression analysis contained 12 lncRNAs engaged in tumor apoptotic and metastatic processes: LINC02595, HCP5, AC020934.2, AC008770.3, LINC01770, AC092718.4, AL589863.1, AC131097.4, AC012368.1, C1RL-AS1, STARD4-AS1, and AC243960.1. Based on this predictive model, high-risk patients exhibited lower overall survival rates than low-risk patients. Signature lncRNAs showed significant correlation with tumor-infiltrating immune cells. In addition, significant differences in PD-1/PD-L1 expression and bleomycin/paclitaxel sensitivity were observed between risk groups.
LncRNAs related to immune microenvironment were prospective prognostic and therapeutic options for AML.
