Objective: To clarify the indications for the choice of operative intervention in patients with SLAC and SNAC wrist and to compare the functional results after proximal carpectomy (PRC) and partial ...intracarpal arthrodesis with scaphoid excision. Methods: A total of 20 patients underwent four corner fusion intracarpal arthrodesis with scaphoid excision, and 8 patients underwent proximal carpectomy in the period from 2016 to 2023. The mean postoperative follow-up period for patients with intracarpal arthrodesis was 3.2 years and for patients with proximal carpectomy was 3.5 years. Results: Regarding range of motion of the wrist in the flexion-extension axis, the proximal carpectomy patients in our series showed better results than the intracarpal arthrodesis patients, an average of 84% in the PRC patients and 75% in the intracarpal arthrodesis patients relative to the contralateral limb. In the patients with intracarpal arthrodesis, however, we recorded a greater preserved range of motion in the radial-ulnar deviation axis of the wrist. Grip strength was measured at 6 months postoperatively and averaged 72% for the PRC group compared with 83% for patients with intracarpal arthrodesis to the contralateral limb. Conclusion: Both proximal carpectomy and intracarpal arthrodesis are surgical interventions that achieve similar functional outcomes for the treatment of degenerative conditions of the wrist (SLAC/SNAC).
In this study, we will outline some significant possibilities of infrared radiometry for measurements of plant surface temperature. We will consider the importance of the distance from the object to ...the radiometer, as well as the angle at which the radiometer registers the radiation. We will show how the change of these two factors affects the heat flux that enters the aperture of the radiometer from the object.
This volume presents the results of research on pre-industrial mining in the region along the south-eastern Bulgarian Black Sea coast. During rescue excavations some prehistoric settlements with ...traces of early of copper processing were uncovered. This initiated a thorough investigation of the copper ore deposits of Burgas, Rosen and Medni Rid that were mined until recently. Their archaeometallurgical investigation was a project of the Tübingen SFB 1070 ResourceCultures. The research results include an overview of the archaeological research along the southern Bulgarian coastal zone of the Black Sea and the now flooded sites in its shore area. The timeframe ranges from the earliest use of metals in the 5th millennium BC to the period of the ‘Greek Colonisation’ and later.
The aerial imagery has a long tradition of use as a surveying method in underwater archaeology. With the recent development of new technologies, its application has become more versatile and more ...common. This article will present the use of aerial photogrammetry in the archaeological survey of the submerged heritage of Nessebar, ancient Mesambria, on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. A major application is the generation of a digital bathymetric model (DBM) of the seafloor, which is reliable and accurate approximately up to -- m depth. It is especially useful in shallow waters and in the intertidal zone, where the implementation of multibeam echosounder scanning is not possible. The combined photogrammetry and multibeam echosounder data generate a precise and accurate surface model of the Nessebar peninsula and its adjacent aquatory with satisfactory resolution (25 cm raster for the seafloor) up to -18 m depth. Another major application is the production of orthophotomosaic (OM) with high resolution (5 cm raster). Both techniques have been used for the creation of multilayer GIS database, documentation and mapping of the archaeological structures and their environment, surveying for unknown archaeological sites, virtual reconstruction of the paleolandscape and its evolution. Important advantages of the aerial photogrammetry is its economic application, fast and logistically easy field data acquisition, relatively fast data processing and low-budget equipment.
The article presents some case studies of negative impact of human activities on underwater cultural heritage from Black Sea. A serious problem is the pollution and the litter disposal in the ...historical harbours. The resulting conditions often endanger some impressive and well-preserved underwater cultural heritage sites. An advanced methodology for litter registering and assessment was developed and applied using remote sensing with side scan sonar, subbottom profiler and orthophotography using a drone. The survey of deep-sea shipwrecks using remote operated vehicles (ROV's) discovered that some of them are almost covered with litter. The ancient remains act as traps which catch light litter objects (mostly items made of plastic), transported by the deep-sea currents. The litter seriously reduced the possibility for exploration and recording of some shipwrecks, and their presentation to the public. The ROV and submarine surveys revealed the extent of the damage to numerous originally well-preserved shipwrecks as a result of the fishing industry practice of bottom trawling. All these cases of negative impact by human activities on the cultural heritage, and its rapid deterioration raise the question of the necessity of prompt and adequate reactions and measures for the prevention of further damage to these endangered underwater archaeological monuments.
This article describes the design and implementation of an Embedded Interactive Timing System. Such systems are used in the therapy of children who have learning problems. The matching of different ...beats can help the brain work more efficiently. A methodology and architecture of an interactive timing is proposed. Open-source software environment and microcontroller is used for the practical realization of the system. Some results of the program functioning are shown.
The research aims to calculate and visualize the appropriate maximum distances for precision cattle thermographic measurements. Factors relevant to radiometric temperature studies are investigated ...and conclusions are drawn about their influence. The results show that the maximum recommended distance for performing a precise radiometric temperature measurement of an individual cattle with a handheld thermal camera is about 3 m.

This type of information is generated by external influencing factors in the complex infrastructure of modern cities. One of these factors we have focused on is noise monitoring. This paper will consider an optical method based on wireless optical and fiber optic systems for monitoring and detecting low frequency sounds.
