The pathogenesis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and obesity is not clarified yet. But some parameters such as neuropeptide Y (NPY), angiopoietin-like protein (Angptl-4), omentin-1 are thought to ...be involved in this pathogenesis. In this study, we aimed to show possible effects of NPY, Angptl-4, omentin-1 throughout clinical parameters and hormones. Patients were divided into three groups. Group I; healthy volunteers, Group II; non-obese women with PCOS and group III; obese women with PCOS. Serum NPY, Angptl-4, free testosterone, total testosterone, luteinize hormone, sex hormone binding globulin, estradiol, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate, androstenedione, triglycerides and low density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and HOMA-IR, Ferriman-Galwey scores were significantly higher in group II when compared with group I and similarly in group III when compared with group II (p < 0.005). While comparing all PCOS patients (obese + non-obese) with healthy volunteers, omentin-1 and high density lipoprotein cholesterol levels were significantly low in PCOS group (p < 0.005). As a result of this study, both in the obese and non-obese PCOS patients, there was a significant increase in levels of NPY and Angptl-4 and a significant decline in omentin-1 when compared to healthy subjects. In conclusion, insulin resistance in PCOS patients may be related to the differences of NPY, Angptl-4 and omentin-1 levels and the effects of these differences on metabolic pathways.
多囊卵巢综合征（PCOS）和肥胖的发病机制目前尚不明确。但认为一些参数如神经肽Y（NPY），血管生成素样蛋白（angptl-4），网膜素-1与其发病机制有关。在这项研究中，我们的目的是通过临床参数和激素的测量发现NPY、angptl-4及网膜素-1的可能作用。患者被分为III组：第I组为健康志愿者，第II组为非肥胖的PCOS患者，第III组为肥胖的PCOS患者。血清NPY、angptl-4、游离睾酮、总睾酮、黄体生成素、睾酮、性激素结合球蛋白、雌二醇、硫酸脱氢表雄酮、雄烯二酮、甘油三酯和低密度脂蛋白胆固醇水平、HOMA-IR及菲尔曼-高尔韦评分第II组均显著高于第I组，第III组与第II组比较时结果相似（p<0.005）。比较所有PCOS患者（肥胖和非肥胖）与健康志愿者，PCOS患者网膜素-1和高密度脂蛋白胆固醇水平均明显降低（P＜0.005）。这项研究的结果表明：肥胖及非肥胖的PCOS患者与健康受试者比较，NPY和angptl-4的水平均显著升高，网膜素-1的水平均明显降低。总之，PCOS患者胰岛素抵抗可能与NPY、angptl-4和网膜素-1水平的差异及这些差异对代谢途径的影响有关。
Water harvesting is crucially important for arid regions where the deficits in rainfall are irregular and a great amount of this water is rapidly lost due to surface runoff. In the arid areas, water ...harvesting is directly related to process of plant growth and conservation of soil and water. Water harvesting is based on the principle of preventing a part of the land, which is usually small and non-productive, from getting the share of rain and adding it to the share of another part. This makes the amount of water available for the crop area and thereby contributes to economic and agricultural production. The most important land-based on micro catchments and farm water-harvesting systems in the arid areas are Contour ridges, Semi-circular and trapezoidal bunds, Small pits, Small runoff basins, Run-off strips, Inter-row systems, Meskat, and Contour-bench terraces. In this study, firstly, a detailed review on on-farm water-harvesting systems was performed. Secondly, a field experiment was carried out to determine the effect of water harvesting with run-off strip method on lentil yield. The experiment was conducted in Soil and Water Research Station, Şanlıurfa, Turkey. The area had low rainfall (370 mm year-1) and high evaporation (2048 mm year-1). Conventional and runoff strip method were applied with tree replication on plot of 12x2.8 m under the same condition. The straw and seed yields of control and Strip Plots application were 2663.7 and 4602 kg ha-1, and 565.5 and 1160.1 kg ha-1 respectively. The results show that the runoff strips method increased straw and grain yield significantly. In addition, recent studies have proved that runoff strip method has the potential to hinder soil erosion by promoting water and crop productivity.
Tuberculosis (TB) is a public health problem worldwide, with the highest mortality . The development of nucleic acid-based tests for detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) has ...significantly increased sensitivity compared to conventional smear microscopy and provides results within a matter of hours compared to weeks for solid culture, which is the current gold standart. The aim of this study was to compare the culture, microscopic smear and molecular method in the diagnosis of TB.
Seven hundred ninety specimens belonging to clinically suspected cases of TB were studied retrospectively. The specimens were grouped as respiratory and non-respiratory and the groups were compared for mycobacterial detection assays. The culture and the molecular diagnostic GeneXpert MTB/RIF (GX) assay method were compared.
When culture was used as the reference standart, 32 (4.05%) specimens were positive for MTBC. Of the 32 culture positive clinical specimens 24 (3.03%) were respiratory and 8 (1.01%) were non-respiratory specimens. All 24 of the 24 respiratory specimens were positive by the GX test, Seven of the eight non-respiratory specimens positive for culture were positive by GX assay. Five of the seven hundred fifty-eight samples of culture negative were positive with GX assay. Sensitivity and specificity of GX were found to be 96.8 % and 99.3 %, respectively.
Molecular methods to acquire time in diagnosis as well as the increase in linearity gives a different perspective to the diagnosis of tuberculosis. The GX assay has a diagnostic utility for rapid diagnosis of TB.

Kurak bölgelerde yağmur suları büyük miktarda düzensizdir ve bu sular hızla yüzey akış nedeniyle kaybolur. Su hasadı kurak bölgeler için son derece önemlidir. Kurak alanlarda, su hasadı doğrudan ...bitki büyüme ve toprak ve su korunması süreci ile ilgilidir. Su hasadı, arazinin bir bölümüne düşen genellikle az ve verimsiz yağmur suyu payını, bir başka bölüm arazisinin payına ekleyerek bu payı iki katına çıkarma ilkesine dayanmaktadır. Bu da ikinci bölge için gerekli sulama suyu miktarını karşılar duruma getirmekte ve böylece ekonomik tarımsal üretime katkıda bulunmaktadır. Kurak alanlarda uygulanan en önemli mikro havza ve çiftlik su toplama sistemleri; kontur sırtlar, yarı dairesel ve trapez setler, küçük çukurlar, küçük akış havzaları, yüzey akış şeritleri, inter-satır sistemleri, meskat ve kontur olan-tezgah teraslardır. Bu çalışmada, öncelikle çiftlik su toplama sistemlerinde ayrıntılı bir inceleme yapılmıştır. İkinci olarak, yüzey akış şeritleriyöntemi ile su hasadının mercimek verimi üzerine etkisini belirlemek amacıyla bir tarla denemesi yapılmıştır. Araştırma, Şanlıurfa Toprak ve Su Araştırma İstasyonu arazisinde yürütülmüştür. Alan, düşük yağış (370 mm yıl-1) ve yüksek buharlaşmaya (2048 mm yıl-1) sahiptir. Konvansiyonel ve yüzey akış şeritleri yöntemi aynı koşullar altında 12x2.8 m parsel üzerinde uygulanmıştır. Araştırma sonucuna göre, kontrol ve yüzey akış şeritleri için saman ve tohum verimi sırasıyla SÜRÜCÜ et al.2663.7 ve 4602 kg ha-1ve 565.5 ve 1160.1 kg ha-1bulunmuştur. Sonuçlar yüzey akış şeritler yönteminin önemli ölçüde mercimeğin saman ve tane verimini arttırdığını göstermektedir. Buna ek olarak, yüzey akış şerit yöntemi su ve ürün verimliliğini teşvik ederek toprak erozyonunu engellemek için önemli bir potansiyele sahip olduğunu kanıtlamıştır

Hemşirelerde gece beslenme alışkanlığı ve uyku kalitesi arasındaki ilişkiyi saptamak, gece beslenme alışkanlığı ile uyku kalitesine etki eden faktörleri belirlemek amacıyla yapılan, kesitsel tipteki ...bu çalışma, Temmuz 2018-Ocak 2019 tarihleri arasında bir üniversite hastanesinde çalışmakta olan 241 hemşire üzerinde yapılmıştır. Verilerin toplanmasında kişisel bilgi formu, Pittsburgh Uyku Kalite İndeksi ve Gece Yeme Anketi kullanılmıştır. Verilerin istatiksel değerlendirilmesinde frekans, yüzde, bağımsız gruplarda t testi, Tek Yönlü Varyans Analizi (ANOVA) ve Lojistik Regresyon Analizi kullanılmıştır. Anlamlılık değeri p<0,05 olarak kabul edilmiştir. Araştırmaya katılan kişilerin %75,1’i kadın, %24,9’u erkektir. Katılımcıların yaş ortalaması 32,68±7,22’dir. Çalışmadaki hemşirelerin % 60,6’sı PUKİ’ den uyku kalitesinin kötü olduğunu gösteren 5 ve daha yüksek puan almış ve %9,1’inde gece yeme alışkanlığı olduğu bulunmuştur. PUKİ ortalama puanı 6,68±3,03 bulunmuştur. Gece yeme alışkanlığı ile uyku kalitesi arasında ilişki olduğu belirlenmiştir (r=0,486, p<0,05). Gece yeme alışkanlığının 33-40 yaş arası bireylerde en fazla, 40 yaş üzeri bireyler ile evli bireylerde en az olduğu saptanmıştır (p<0,05). Gece nöbeti tutma, sürekli gece veya vardiyalı çalışma, meslekte çalışma süresi (5-15 yıl), alkol kullanımı faktörleri ile gece yeme alışkanlığının arttığı tespit edilmiştir (p<0,05). Gece nöbeti tutma, sürekli gece veya vardiyalı çalışma, alkol kullanımı ve çay tüketiminin artması gibi durumların uyku kalitesini olumsuz etkilediği bulunmuştur (p<0,05). Sonuç olarak çalışmamızdaki hemşirelerin gece yeme alışkanlığı ile uyku kalitesi arasında ilişki olduğu bulunmuştur. Gece yeme alışkanlığını azaltmak ve uyku kalitesini arttırmak için çalışma saatleri ve koşulları düzenlenebilir.
This cross-sectional study was conducted on 241 nurses working in a university hospital between July 2018 and January 2019, to determine the relationship between night feeding habits and sleep quality in nurses and to determine the factors that affect night feeding habits and sleep quality. Personal information form, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and Night Eating Questionnaire were used to collect data. Frequency, percentage, t-test in independent groups, and One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Logistic Regression Analysis were used for statistical evaluation of the data. Significance value was accepted as p<0.05. 75.1% of the participants were female and 24.9% were male. The mean age of the participants was 32.68±7.22. 60.6% of the nurses in the study received a score of 5 or higher from PSQI indicating poor sleep quality, and 9.1% were found to have night eating habits. The mean PSQI score was 6.68±3.03. There was a relationship between night eating habits and sleep quality (r=0.486, p<0.05). Night eating habits were found to be highest in individuals between 33-40 years, least in individuals above 40 years of age and married individuals (p<0.05). It was found that the night eating habits were increased due to night shifts, continuous night or shift work, duration of work (5-15 years), alcohol use factors (p<0.05). It was found that situations such as night watch, continuous night or shift work, alcohol consumption, and increased tea consumption adversely affect sleep quality (p<0.05). In conclusion, in our study it was found that there was a relationship between night eating habits and sleep quality of nurses. Working hours and conditions can be regulated to reduce night eating habits and improve sleep quality.

Studies conducted in recent years have indicated a relationship between epilepsy and gut microbiota. Ion channels, excitatory/inhibitory balance and regulatory systems play a role in the ...pathophysiology of epilepsy. In addition, gut dysbiosis is also involved in the pathophysiology of epilepsy. This research investigated the impacts of probiotic mixture on epileptic seizures, Gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA), glutamate, and TAS and TOS levels in hippocampal tissue in the PTZ-induced acute seizure model in rats. Four groups were formed with male Wistar albino rats. The first and second groups were given 1 ml/day saline solution, and the other groups were given 0.05 mg/1 ml/day vehicle or 109cfu/1 ml/day probiotic supplementation, respectively via gavage for 21 days. A single-dose PTZ (45 mg/kg) was administered to induce seizure. The stages of seizure were analyzed according to the Racine scale. While ELISA was used to determine GABA and glutamate levels in the hippocampus, an automated colorimetric method was utilized to measure oxidant/antioxidant biomarkers. It was found that by delaying the first myoclonic jerk (FMJ), and the onset of the generalized tonic-clonic seizures, the probiotic mixture demonstrated anticonvulsant effects against seizures. The probiotic mixture was found to increase the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA. It was also found to decrease TOS levels and increase TAS concentration. The findings of this study showed that probiotic mixture reduced oxidative stress with its positive effects against PTZ-induced epileptic seizures. Further studies are needed to reveal potentially related mechanisms.

The physicochemical properties (size, shape, zeta potential, porosity, elasticity, etc.) of nanocarriers influence their biological behavior directly, which may result in alterations of the ...therapeutic outcome. Understanding the effect of shape on the cellular interaction and biodistribution of intravenously injected particles could have fundamental importance for the rational design of drug delivery systems. In the present study, spherical, rod and elliptical disk-shaped PLGA nanoparticles were developed for examining systematically their behavior in vitro and in vivo. An important finding is that the release of the encapsulated human serum albumin (HSA) was significantly higher in spherical particles compared to rod and elliptical disks, indicating that the shape can make a difference. Safety studies showed that the toxicity of PLGA nanoparticles is not shape dependent in the studied concentration range. This study has pioneering findings on comparing spherical, rod and elliptical disk-shaped PLGA nanoparticles in terms of particle size, particle size distribution, colloidal stability, morphology, drug encapsulation, drug release, safety of nanoparticles, cellular uptake and biodistribution. Nude mice bearing non-small cell lung cancer were treated with 3 differently shaped nanoparticles, and the accumulation of nanoparticles in tumor tissue and other organs was not statistically different (p > 0.05). It was found that PLGA nanoparticles with 1.00, 4.0 ± 0.5, 7.5 ± 0.5 aspect ratios did not differ on total tumor accumulation in non-small cell lung cancer.
The diagnosis and follow-up of hypertension (HT) depend on the blood pressure measurements, which can be affected by several factors. In the present work, we aimed to explore the role of uric ...acid/HDL-cholesterol ratio (UHR) in HT and whether/or not it was associated with poor blood pressure control.
In this retrospective cross-sectional cohort study, all the participants treated for hypertension and then followed up in the internal medicine clinics of our institution were enrolled. Hypertensive patients were grouped as either poorly or well-controlled hypertension groups, according to the suggestions of Joint National Committee VIII criteria and healthy volunteers were enrolled as control group. UHR of the study groups was compared.
Our study cohort consisted of 535 subjects; 258 in the well-controlled HT group, 186 in the poorly controlled HT group, and 91 in the control group. Median UHR levels of the poorly controlled HT group (13 (4-43) %) were significantly higher than well-controlled HT group 11 (4-22) %) and control group (8 (4-19) %) (p < 0.001). UHR was correlated with systolic (r = 0.33, p < 0.001) and diastolic (r = 0.28, p < 0.001) BP. UHR level greater than 11% has 70% sensitivity and 60% specificity in predicting poor BP control (AUC: 0.73, p < 0.001, 95%CI: 0.68-0.77). UHR was an independent risk factor for poor BP control in HT subjects and a unit elevation in UHR increased the risk of poorer BP control by 7.3 times (p < 0.001, 95%CI: 3.9-13.63).
Assessment of UHR may be useful in HT patients since elevated UHR levels could be associated with poor blood pressure control in this population.
Bu çalışmada, Tıp Fakültesi öğrencilerinin Geleneksel ve Tamamlayıcı Tedavi (GTT) konusunda bilgi, tutum ve davranışlarını değerlendirmek amaçlanmıştır. Tanımlayıcı kesitsel tipteki bu çalışma, ...Aralık 2017- Mart 2018 tarihleri arasında İnönü Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi öğrencilerine yapılmıştır. Ağırlıklı Basit Rastgele Örnekleme yöntemi ile minimum örneklem 311 kişi olarak hesaplanmıştır. Sınıf mevcutlarına orantılı olarak örneklem seçilmiştir. Çalışmaya katılmayı kabul eden 299 öğrenciye araştırmacılar tarafından literatür taranarak oluşturulan anket formu uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler SPSS istatistik programında, sayı, yüzde ve ki-kare testi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Anlamlılık değeri p<0.05 olarak kabul edilmiştir. Çalışmaya katılan öğrencilerin %50.2’si kadın ,% 89.3’ü 18-25 yaş arasındadır. Öğrencilerin %68.6’sının herhangi bir GTT yöntemini kullanmadığı ve %80’inin herhangi bir GTT eğitimi almadığı belirlenmiştir. GTT eğitimi alma durumu ile GTT yöntemlerini kullanma durumu arasında anlamlı bir fark bulunamamıştır. Öğrencilerin en fazla bildikleri GTT yöntemleri masaj (%66.6), bitkiler (%61.2) ve hacamat (%60.9) iken en az bildikleri yöntem akupresör olarak belirlenmiştir. Öğrencilerin en fazla kullandığı GTT yöntemlerinin masaj (%15.4), diyetler (%10.4) ve fitoterapi (%10.4) olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Öğrencilerin %73.9’u Geleneksel ve Tamamlayıcı Tedavi uygulamalarının tıp fakültesi müfredatında yer alması gerektiği görüşüne katılmaktadır. Erkek (%14.7) ve kadın (%8.7) öğrenciler Geleneksel ve Tamamlayıcı Tedaviler kişilerin tam bir tedavi almasına engel olduğu için tehlikelidir görüşünü desteklemektedir (p<0.05). Genel olarak GTT yöntemleriyle ilgili tutum ve düşüncelere erkek ve kadın öğrenciler benzer şekilde cevap vermişlerdir. Sonuç olarak çalışmamızda öğrencilerin çoğunun; GTT yöntemlerini duymalarına rağmen kapsamlı bir şekilde bilmediği, GTT yöntemlerini kullanma oranlarının düşük olduğu ve GTT konusunda eğitim almak istedikleri görülmüştür.
