A new species of Parotocinclus from the upper Rio Paraguaçu, Bahia, Brazil, is described. The new species is distinguished from all congeners by its unique color pattern, with irregular dark blotches ...resulting in a somewhat marble-spotted pattern on head and trunk of most specimens and dorsum of head with a conspicuous V-shaped light mark from tip of snout to nares. The new species is also distinguished from congeners by having the lower lip elongated posteriorly and reaching or surpassing the anterior margin of cleithrum on the pectoral girdle, the canal cheek plate on the ventral surface of the head reduced and with a slightly concave margin, and abdomen covered by small embedded platelets, without contact with each other and not arranged in a line between the pectoral-fin axilla and pelvic-fin origin. The presence of a thick and rough skin in the interradial membrane of pelvic fin exclusively in the females of P. nandae is reported by the first time to occurs in Siluriformes.
Abstract
Prediction of B cell epitopes that can replace the antigen for antibody production and detection is of great interest for research and the biotech industry. Here, we developed a novel ...BLAST-based method to predict linear B cell epitopes. To that end, we generated a BLAST-formatted database upon a dataset of 62,730 known linear B cell epitope sequences and considered as a B cell epitope any peptide sequence producing ungapped BLAST hits to this database with identity ≥ 80% and length ≥ 8. We examined B cell epitope predictions by this method in tenfold cross-validations in which we considered various types of non-B cell epitopes, including 62,730 peptide sequences with verified negative B cell assays. As a result, we obtained values of accuracy, specificity and sensitivity of 72.54 ± 0.27%, 81.59 ± 0.37% and 63.49 ± 0.43%, respectively. In an independent dataset incorporating 503 B cell epitopes, this method reached accuracy, specificity and sensitivity of 74.85%, 99.20% and 50.50%, respectively, outperforming state-of-the-art methods to predict linear B cell epitopes. XPC genes confer sensitivity to UV carcinogenesis in both humans and mice, but only

–/– mice have increased acute responses to UV exposure, whereas
XPC
–/– mice are normal in this respect. Both XPE and XPF proteins have functions separate from their role in NER, but the exact nature of these functions has not yet been established. The CSA and CSB genes responsible for CS are both components of complexes associated with RNA polymerase II and their role is thought to be in assisting polII in dealing with transcription blocks. XPB and XPD proteins are components of transcription factor TFIIH, which is involved in both basal and activated transcription. XPB is part of the core of TFIIH and has a central role in transcription, whereas XPD connects the core to the CAK subcomplex, and can tolerate many different mutations. Subtle differences in the effects of these different mutations on the many activities of TFIIH and on its stability determine the clinical outcomes, which can be XP, TTD, XP with CS, XP with TTD or COFS. Features of single and double mutant mice indicate that the neurological and ageing features associated with these disorders result from the defects in NER in association with the transcriptional deficiencies. ptch genes, showing that sunlight-induced mutations in these genes are important in carcinogenesis in XP patients.
A redescription of Corydoras undulatus Regan, 1912 is presented. The original description of C. undulatus is very succinct, as is its diagnosis, which is based only on external morphology. Additional ...information in the scientific literature on this species is scarce. Specimens from the distribution area of this species were analyzed; Paraná and Paraguay river basins in Argentina, Uruguay river basin in Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay, and the Laguna dos Patos system in Brazil. Morphological analysis, principal component analysis (PCA), meristic comparison and osteological description were performed. Corydoras undulatus can be distinguished from its congeners mainly by having the following combination of characters: mesethmoid short, with anterior tip short, smaller than 50% of the entire bone length; posterior margin of the pectoral-fin spine with nearly all serrations directed towards origin of spine; pectoral-fin spine with conical serrations; and its peculiar color pattern. The analysis of the material from the different basins did not indicate relevant morphological differences, suggesting that the species presents a wide distribution in La Plata and Laguna dos Patos drainages. The shared geographic distribution between these two systems is also present in other fish species. The current work presents data about the type locality, taxonomy, osteology, distribution and ontogenetic variation of color pattern in C. undulatus. Comments on the identity of a very similar congener, Corydoras latus, will also be provided.

Background From a classical point of view, gastric motility acts to clear the stomach between meals, whereas postprandial motility acts to provide a ...reservoir for food, mixing and grinding the food and to assure a controlled flow of food to the intestines.
Aim To summarise findings that support the role of gastric motility as a central mediator of hunger, satiation and satiety.
Methods A literature review using the search terms ‘satiety’, ‘satiation’ and ‘food intake’ was combined with specific terms corresponding to the sequence of events during and after food intake.
Results During food intake, when gastric emptying of especially solids is limited, gastric distension and gastric accommodation play an important function in the regulation of satiation. After food intake, when the stomach gradually empties, the role of gastric distension in the determination of appetite decreases and the focus will shift to gastric emptying and intestinal exposure of the nutrients. Finally, we have discussed the role of the empty stomach and the migrating motor complex in the regulation of hunger signals.
Conclusions Our findings indicate that gastric motility is a key mediator of hunger, satiation and satiety. More specifically, gastric accommodation and gastric emptying play important roles in the regulation of gastric (dis)tension and intestinal exposure of nutrients and hence control satiation and satiety. Correlations between gastric accommodation, gastric emptying and body weight indicate that gastric motility can also play a role in the long‐term regulation of body weight.
This study investigates how background music influences learning with respect to three different theoretical approaches. Both the Mozart effect as well as the arousal-mood-hypothesis indicate that ...background music can potentially benefit learning outcomes. While the Mozart effect assumes a direct influence of background music on cognitive abilities, the arousal-mood-hypothesis assumes a mediation effect over arousal and mood. However, the seductive detail effect indicates that seductive details such as background music worsen learning. Moreover, as working memory capacity has a crucial influence on learning with seductive details, we also included the learner's working memory capacity as a factor in our study. We tested 81 college students using a between-subject design with half of the sample listening to two pop songs while learning a visual text and the other half learning in silence. We included working memory capacity in the design as a continuous organism variable. Arousal and mood scores before and after learning were collected as potential mediating variables. To measure learning outcomes we tested recall and comprehension. We did not find a mediation effect between background music and arousal or mood on learning outcomes. In addition, for recall performance there were no main effects of background music or working memory capacity, nor an interaction effect of these factors. However, when considering comprehension we did find an interaction between background music and working memory capacity: the higher the learners' working memory capacity, the better they learned with background music. This is in line with the seductive detail assumption.
SARS-CoV-2 infection takes a mild or clinically inapparent course in the majority of humans who contract this virus. After such individuals have cleared the virus, only the detection of ...SARS-CoV-2-specific immunological memory can reveal the exposure, and hopefully the establishment of immune protection. With most viral infections, the presence of specific serum antibodies has provided a reliable biomarker for the exposure to the virus of interest. SARS-CoV-2 infection, however, does not reliably induce a durable antibody response, especially in sub-clinically infected individuals. Consequently, it is plausible for a recently infected individual to yield a false negative result within only a few months after exposure. Immunodiagnostic attention has therefore shifted to studies of specific T cell memory to SARS-CoV-2. Most reports published so far agree that a T cell response is engaged during SARS-CoV-2 infection, but they also state that in 20-81% of SARS-CoV-2-unexposed individuals, T cells respond to SARS-CoV-2 antigens (mega peptide pools), allegedly due to T cell cross-reactivity with Common Cold coronaviruses (CCC), or other antigens. Here we show that, by introducing irrelevant mega peptide pools as negative controls to account for chance cross-reactivity, and by establishing the antigen dose-response characteristic of the T cells, one can clearly discern between cognate T cell memory induced by SARS-CoV-2 infection vs. cross-reactive T cell responses in individuals who have not been infected with SARS-CoV-2.
The direct dissolution and joint spinning of cellulose and lignin from NMMO-water were investigated by using dissolving pulp and purified KRAFT lignin. Compared to the rather narrow dissolution ...window of cellulose in the NMMO-water system, lignin with concentrations up to 15 wt.-% was shown to dissolve in a range from 30 % NMMO to 70 % NMMO at room temperature. The quasi-ternary phase diagram of cellulose-lignin-(NMMO-monohydrate) is represented by a cross section at 95 °C. Dry-jet wet spinning was realized for the cellulose-lignin compound up to 50 % lignin loading. The spinnability decreases with increasing lignin content. SEM and TEM investigations of the fibers exhibit a core-shell structure with a dense core and a porous shell with lower lignin content. In accordance with the X-ray fiber diagrams, it can be concluded that cellulose governs fiber formation and fiber properties while lignin acts mainly as a filler in the core region.

m, observed with the upGREAT receiver on SOFIA, as well as a weak C

m line detected with APEX. We propose that the observations are consistent with a scenario in which shock excitation gives rise to warm and dense gas close to the highest column density regions in the Musca filament. Using shock models, we find that the CO observations can be consistent with excitation by J-type low-velocity shocks. A qualitative comparison of the observed CO spectra with synthetic observations of dynamic filament formation simulations shows a good agreement with the signature of a filament accretion shock that forms a cold and dense filament from a converging flow. The Musca filament is thus found to be dense molecular post-shock gas. Filament accretion shocks that dissipate the supersonic kinetic energy of converging flows in the ISM may thus play a prominent role in the evolution of cold and dense filamentary structures.
While implementing participation in an organisational health intervention (OHI), the formation of a group of representatives responsible for developing and realising action plans is a common ...approach. This mixed-methods study aimed (a) to examine differential intervention effects for employees who are directly involved in intervention decision making (direct participants DPs, N = 84) compared with the remaining employees (indirect participants IPs, N = 99) and (b) to explore the transfer process between these groups. Quantitative surveys were collected at two time points (follow-up after six months), and four focus group discussions were conducted during the follow-up phase. The results show that DPs experienced an improvement in intervention outcomes (psychosocial working conditions and affective states at work) compared with IPs. For IPs, no positive change was observed. However, further subgroup analyses found that IPs in "successful teams" were also able to experience improvement in intervention outcomes. Qualitative focus group data gave insights into the beneficial and less beneficial transfer process mechanisms between DPs and IPs that could explain these differential effects for IPs. This study highlights the importance of considering the forms and quality of participation in OHIs and offers insights into the processes shaping the intervention effects for whole teams.
